Question: Until recently (the last six months or so) a high ranking was achievable by submitting articles to article directories (providing they were 40%-60% unique), it no longer seems to be the case. Have links from article sites been de-valued at all?
Google’s Answer: In my experience, not every article directory site is high-quality. Sometimes you see a ton of articles copied all over the place, and it's hard to even find original content on the site. The user experience for a lot of those article directory sites can be pretty bad too. So you'd see users landing on those sorts of pages have a bad experience. If you're thinking of boosting your reputation and getting to be well-known, I might not start as the very first thing with an article directory. Sometimes it's nice to get to be known a little better before jumping in and submitting a ton of articles as the first thing.
Translation: Yes.

I still think it's a great place to start. Getting good backlinks from sites with high PR will always help boost your rankings. The trick is to have a good article marketing plan and keep up with it. _________________ Tired of the grind of article writing? Become an Article Writing Robot! |

Yes, I agree with Backgammon123 and Kennichi.
The top article directories clearly experience high submissions from internet marketing entrepreneurs who view them as a way of gaining a good backlink to their sites.
There are two aspects to this process. One is creating an unique, fresh, quality article in your niche, which adds something new to that subject and so meets the needs of the visitor searching for information.
The second part is creating momentum by increasing the number of articles which point back to your site where you aim to monetise the process.
A number of automated systems are offered which are designed in theory to leverage your time, especially if you want to post to 300 or more directories.
There is of course an argument which runs that you only need to post to say 5 at most of the top sites, including Ezine Articles and Go Articles.
I believe with the continual development in SE algorithms, more weight is likely to be given to content which is fresh, as opposed to the saturated PLR type of material which is found around the internet.
This places a premium on original creativity which is made even more valuable if you add what I call the special "magnet" to the article.
This "magnet approach" is what really makes an article, whatever the niche, a valuable piece of content, to be posted either to the top article directories or to your own site.
And with the new Web 2.0 technology, having an unique article is great because you can get the Long Tail keywords in the title and so it gets indexed very quickly.
So, the future will be bright for those who emphasize unique, fresh content with some spice added to get the spiders crawling towards your site at double speed:) _________________ Mervyn
