Post subject: Only 2 mos. old and ranked in top 1%. How did they do it?

I'm just starting out and have a site that's not doing so great. I use SBI. Anyway I came accross this site (www.compare-fun-jobs.com) from an adsense advertisement here on associateprograms.com According to whois.net the site has only been up since Nov. and according to alexa.com it's already in the top 1%. He does not use SBI. This is the kind of site that I wanted to have but SBI suggested not to. How is this site already doing so well? Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated, because I really want to open a site with the same theme.
Best Regards,
John |

Some things you would need to know about the site to know why it did so well...
How many links from other sites to that site...
What PR are those links coming into this site...
What sort of joint venture (if any) did that site partake of...
And was there any existing traffic from an old site that is now going to this new site? _________________ Eric D. Burdo

I don't know about the last two questions, but for the first two. According to alexa.com there are no other sites linking to the site.

Hello John.

It's possible that the site owner has the Alexa toolbar and needs to visit his site a great many times... for maintenance reasons, or "something like that". That would inflate his site's importance in Alexa's eyes.
Do a search for Alexa on the forum. There has been quite a bit of debate about whether the results are worth much - absolutely, relatively or at all.
Remember that even if the Alexa ranking is meaningful, there is still the question of whether the site is earning, rather than just getting traffic.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

You can buy hits... for cheap. Hits are just empty traffic. You can buy programs that generate hits for you... I commented on one in a post around here somewhere... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Thanks for the helpful information. With the last two posts in mind, do you think that an affiliate site with the them would be a waste time or do I have a decent chance?
Thanks,
John |

This site has a page rank of 4/10 with Google, with 2 sites linking
to it, according to a page rank check with Google. |

Get the Google Toolbar installed and you can view page rank and page info on various sites. Interesting info, but not 100% accurate at any given point in time. Kinda like Alexa but better as with anything though ... keep it in perspective.
Having the Google toolbar installed won't affect your site placement like the Alexa bar can. _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

It's obvious how the site is getting its traffic and therefore it's Alexa ranking. You yourself said that you saw the site on an adsense link here at this site so obviously they are paying google adwords for their traffic which very well may be their only source of traffic and sole contributor to their Alexa rating. The subject of the site also has a large percentage of Alexa toolbar users and so the amount of traffic they're getting may very well be less than you think if you are trying to compare sites that reach different categories of people. _________________ [url=http://www.rccartalk.com] |

Yup ... I agree with Daryl. Since you found it through Adsense ... you never know how much the owner is spending on Adsense or maybe other PPC as well. I think it is possible if you have a huge budget for PPC.
Oh yeah ... I searched for websites that contains 'compare-fun-jobs', I found 112. I see that in all the websites, the term 'compare-fun-jobs' appeared as Google ads, not the normal 'Google Ads' format. I guess these must be special partners of Google.
I think this guy must have been spending a lot on Adsense. His ad which redirect visitors to Google Cash via his website is appearing in websites like Epinion, Dealtime, Amazon, Ask, and some other websites.
I think that is how he pushes his Alexa ranking. But I don't think that those traffic are visitor of his website because they all get redirected to Google Cash. Yet, still, the traffic does increase his Alexa ranking. _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino
