I have two new sites with NO traffic and am trolling the web for possible reciprocal links. Problem is, I have no real idea of how many I should try to set up -- as a guideline.

When you build a new site, do you have a rule of thumb about how many "quality" recip links you try for? Obviously, I could be chasing down these links forever so I wanted to have a number in mind.

I try for 10 right off and try to build up to about 30 a page before splitting off to another page, or categorizing them.

Sign up for value exchange through sitesell ... that should help cut down some of the fingerwork Wink

Here are a series of articles regarding linking that may help:

Remember that as well as creating links pages, you can also provide a link to another site from a relevant spot inside an article on your site.

This is likely to be a more powerful link for the site you're linking to, because it's likely to be on a page with a higher PageRank, on a page that's all about the subject you're linking to, and there probably won't be a huge number of links on the page.

And - let's specualte a bit here - if at some time in the future search engines get even tougher on links pages, you'll be safely immune from any problems when that particular algorithm change strikes.

This is all very useful if you're trying hard to impress a site that you want to link back to you.

Allan is right on, and, my preferred way of exchanging links, is not to exchange links, but to exchange articles with linked bylines!
