Post subject: Search Engine Optimization: does it work for all sites?

I have a question here. search engine optimization is about changing your meta elements, right? But if a person has a social networking website, does she need to do any SEO? Or should I ask, does SEO apply to Social websites?
Thank you. _________________ http://www.craconnection.com Start a Lucrative Clinical Research Associates Career. Free Membership and Job Listings! |

SEO is suitable for every site. Its not all about your meta elements as this is just a part of the onpage side of SEO. Offpage (building backlinks using your keywords as anchor texts) optimization should also be done... Here are some venues to build you backlinks:
Directories
Forums
Blogs
Social Bookmarking sites
Other sites that are related to your niche
Hope that helps. _________________ Red Tree Web Directory

Seo is not only for onpage. onpage only for to design a page with meta elements and its a part of onpage. Another side is offpage in that we promote the site with link building proess, by that we get backlinks and traffic with such process. SEO is not only about your meta tags. In fact metatags are thought nowadays to be low on the SEO priority list
You want to apply SEO to your content
Also there is an off page aspect to SEO which is even bigger. With this you have to generate as many links to your site as possible from a variety of websites.
This is the real key to SEO and getting good search engine positions _________________ Free Marketing Videos

This depends on which metas you are talking about. Meta Titles often score HIGH in the engines, if they are done with the right targeted keywords.
Meta descriptions can also be powerful, again, if you know how to utilize them.
I just built a brand new site about 6 weeks ago, and several pages are at #3 at Google, for the Title metas alone.
I've not begun any off-site SEO yet.
And no, it's not an obscure topic at all.
Same happened with several of my clients sites. Off-site factors are significantly important, but behind the scenes for on-page factors can also rule.
But to the original poster - all these other posters are right. You will want and need LOTS of in-pointing links from relevant, yet non-competitive websites.
As for the original question to this post - Yep, SEO can apply to any website. _________________ MJ

Yep, I'd say SEO could be applied to most any site and even should be.
However some folks get free website makers and servers, which don't always allow for your own direct placement of such tags. _________________ MJ
