Post subject: SEO - short URLs vs longer PHP URLs
|
|
|
Is there any real SEO benefit from simplifying my PHP urls to shorter, neater urls (with mod_rewrite)? I want to do this mostly to make my site look nicer - but if it's good for search engines, then all the better.
Is there any reason NOT to make shorter URLs? _________________ London hotels Seat Belt Buckle |

PRO:
- accessibility (for users)
- can help avoid duplicate content issues if used wisely
- users can't see internal site structure (may prevent exploits)
NOT SURE:
- effect on search engines
CON:
- increased page load times
- more work, especially if you want to update the site later on |

Longer Urls are better for grabbing SE's attention.
Shorter URLS are better for catchy, branding names.
Basically.
You can also register a long keyword-rich domain, and then register another shorter domain, and point it to the keyword-rich domain. _________________ MJ

I think that a lot of it is down to what you are pushing. If its something that really is aimed at the SEs, then fine, go with longer. If you want something that people will remember, then you need shorter more punchy URLs. _________________ Discover A $2 Million/Year Affiliate's Secret Google Weapon! |
