Post subject: Obsolete? Why exactly?
|
|
|
I'm new to these forums, and would like to say hi to everyone first. Ok, on to the topic...
I own Martell's 2006 Aff. Marketer's Handbook and after looking through these forums for a while, I've seen that some claim that James's methods are obsolete and ineffective.
I don't really see a huge difference in his methods and the methods explained in other "Affiliate handbooks" (Affiliate Masters Course, Rosalind Gardners's book, free tutorials on the net...). There are some differences when it comes to choosing services (hosting, domains, keyword research software...), SEO, Site structuring,... - but these are minor.
I've been sucking up information from different sources in an attempt to get a nice compilation of affiliate strategies, so what I need to know is -
What exactly about JM's methods is ineffective/obsolete?
(his backlinking strategy, his view on Google PR, his site structuring.....?) |

What you need is not to know why something is obsolete... what you need to do is pick a strategy, develope a business plan and see if you can make something happen for yourself.
Once a "stategy" is published it will be evalated and people will try it. If it works it will be "milked" until it doesn't work.
James and all the others unless they have insider information direct from the Search Engines are not going to be able to develop a "static" startegy that will continue to work year in and year out. The people who are making the money are innovators and do their own thing - this is not to say they don't "keep up" with what is going on.
So stop reading and get started. _________________

Hi,
I have build sites using martells systems, got it up to the point of making money. The ideas do work, a major focus needs to be on outside links to the site, for SEO ranking. Keep that in mind- getting links to your site- has to be quality site to get links back.
In regard to other comment- stay focused- follow hes planned _________________ best regards

| It is like anything else once the world realises that something works then many people will do exactly the same thing and in some instances (but not all) this can dilute profits somewhat although there is always the option of adapting accordingly and doing something a little bit different from the majority. |

Since this post seems to have drawn a better response than mine, I'll add my question here again.
It sounds like Martell's book is maybe still effective, which is mainly what I was wondering.
I can't help but wonder why he doesn't have something more up-to-date on the website though, as far as testimonials and even the version of the book.
Putting the year in the title seems like a recipe for becoming outdated. Is there a reason he hasn't updated it recently?
Is he still actively selling and supporting this book or has it been left to stagnate?
With so many books out there to pick from, I'd hate to buy one that has been left to die on the vine, especially since it's more expensive than some of the others.
Thanks again,
Randy |

A couple years ago James made a lot of his sites public as examples. This backfired bigtime and made him look bad.
He makes a good living selling information and to do that you can't go public with everything.
If you want to purchase a Good Primer that will help you increase your "vision" of what internet marketing is all about and give you a solid foundation on which to expand and grow your own ideas I can wholly recommend Rosalind Gardner's SupperAffiliate Handbook.
It's interesting that Gardner, Martell, Campbell... a lot of these people that are selling this type of information are all based in British Columbia. Must be something in the water up there! _________________
