On increasing page rank - build quality and targeted backlinks from high pr sites or directories. The more natural/organic links you build, the more it would contribute on your site PR.

PR is best if your site is selling ad spaces or links. But if you are selling products or services and more concern on getting targeted traffic, I would suggest you focus more on your SERP Wink

What is the difference really between PR and SERP's? I thought that the two went hand in hand.. That is, the higher your page rank, the more likely you will beat out others in the SERPS?

Is there some integral part that I'm missing?

Thanks,

Page Rank is how Google weighs your site based on the number of quality and authority sites linking to you. High PR does not guarantee high rankings on Search Engine Result Pages.

SERP (keword ranking on search results) are affected by onpage (keyword, meta, etc.) and offpage factors (links from other sites containing your keywords as anchor texts). A PR2 site can outrank a PR5 site on a particular keyword.

PR plays no real relevancy in SERP Wink

Aha!

That makes more sense now.. It seemed to me that the higher PR sites always were outranking the lower ones, perhaps I didn't look at the specifics enough..

Thanks

Nope... there are just as many cases of top positions being held by sites with little PR for keywords as there are for sites with high PR. However, that being said PR is good for a lot of things besides possible SERP placement. Probably the single biggest factors for SERP placement is 1) Competition and 2) The number of inbound 1way Links with appropriate Anchor text... bottomline = the more the better!

On topic sites or pages where the link is posted is especially valued but.. even links posted on Off topic sites or pages still count and are quite valuable. The Higher the PR of the page that links to you the better especially if the "nofollow" tag is NOT being used.

Hi,

Pr and SERPs go hand in hand, but the point here is that PR alone cannot decide the position in the search engine results page. There are many sites as such which have low page rank but are even then ranked high in the results page. This could be because of the on page and the off-page factors which are generally the major interest for the search engines.

It's as important as todays temperature. Today it is 95, tomorrow it will be 89.

What does it mean?

Turns out I've never been able to buy anything with Page Rank. But money, now that is a whole different story.

You don't work to increase your page rank. You work to increase your traffic and conversions.

Like temperature, Page Rank is just a unit of measure.

Turns out I can make money on 95 degree days and 89 degree days. And so can you. So put your focus on what really matters. Conversion.

Hi,

The more organic SEO you do to the site, the more the quality back-links, and more the back-links, more are the chances of getting good PR in the search engines.

What rubbish. None of those things will harm a site nor its PR - they help it!

The best way to increase your page rank is to get backlinks from page with an equal or higher page rank than you have.

How important is it? I do not even check my page rank anymore. I agree with Quest. Traffic and conversion is the key. I make way more money now than I ever did a few years ago when my home page had a PR6.

Google changes this stuff all of the time and we can not really control what Google does so just worry about what you can control and do more of it!

In my view one can get good back links only one provides the best quality work to the site, just it is like doing various tasks of SEO to enhance the familiarity of the site. Further, Page Rank is how google weighs your site depending on the number of quality and authority sites linking to your website.
