I actually have two sites up. Neither, I'm sure, involve much genius, but I'm going by Ken Evoy's e-book and I'm finding the material so dense that I feel I have to "do" some of it before I can really process it. So, I went out and built some would-be affiliate sites for the experience, as it were. So's not to confuse things, I'll put just the first one on in this thread.

Gulp ... here it is ...

http://www.buy-the-domain-name.com/

I'm getting zip traffic so far although I did get listed in DMOZ. I see the googlebot coming every other night or so (I think), but no Google listing yet. This site is probably a week and a half old or possibly two weeks.

Anyway, any comments welcomed ... thanks for looking!
Gulp!

(I just hate getting out there before I have a clue about what I'm doing, but how else to learn?)

Wow... I like it... some good useful information there.

One this that you might want to change. One the "buy a cheap domain" page, you list your #2 and #3 choice on the left, but the #1 choice is WAY down the page. I would put all three choices on the left...

I tend to read the stuff down the sides (well, at least scan them) before reading content, and it didn't quite make senses... so had to go looking for #1 (although I guessed who it was Smile )

Have you considered becoming a registrar yourself? You can resell domains like Godaddy does... they have some info at their site. May or may not be worth it to you...

And, you should send the site to Ken Evoy. And several of the other marketing guru's... they just may give you some traffic via a newsletter or such...

Thanks for your thoughts, Eric.

I think you're right on the sidebar stuff. This is exactly the sort of feedback I I needed. Putting together an affiliate site is lonely work, and it seems like your quirks come out all over the place. Smile

I think I did briefly run through the idea of being a reseller/registrar, but all the articles I read on the topic really drove home the lack of margins. From the little I read, to survive, you need to be able to effectively upsell to more profitable services like web hosting, etc. etc. Anyway, all that seemed a little out of my ken. But it is an interesting (and bold) idea and I'll ponder it. Thanks!

Oh, and I'll think about sending this on to Ken Evoy too ... Smile

Thanks again!

Very nice site, and entertaining content Smile Nice touch. Love the guru/shirt graphics.

I am 1024x768 with a quick finger on the change font view ... thank you for allowing font size changes, my eyes appreciate that Smile

To be honest the only problem I had with the site was the design didn't stretch to fit the screen, or near fit, or get centered, it looks lopsided.

I see 1/3 of the browser window as white space on the right. Granted you need to be flexible down a bit in monitor sizes, but 800x600 is fast losing ground to higher resolutions and now falls below 1/2 of the users. Just something to consider for the future.

I see you are working on a rate a registrar database, that will be great to help add content. If you would like to try to get some of these Db pages added to the SE's (which could dramatically increase your SE presence, -- hence traffic), try setting up some of those drop down codes as clickable links on that page.

Hope this helps,
Debs

Okay, good thoughts. Great thoughts actually. I've reorganized the registrar rating page according to your suggestion and it's 200% better.
