Yes, I've seen this a couple of times. The only possible downside is that everytime you add another piece into the chain, it's another way to lose people.
The people I saw doing this were big testers, so I am sure it was working for them, though.
I quite like the idea, as well. Sort of the opposite of a squeeze page, in a way. How about spinning it into more of a give, before the ensuing take?

In any case!
Look for "reverse squeeze page" model that John Reese talked about.
You're right, it takes testing, it could be badder as well as better. The site I saw offered a service that's free or paid as upgraded version, maybe it works good for such a thing.

It works very well, and can be more effective than a simple landing page with an opt-in form.

Research for a keyword phrase that has good searches. Write an EXCELLENT article that should really help the exact people that search for this phrase.
Put yourself in that searchers. If you would search for that phrase, and you found and read the article, would it be a great help your you? Would it give exactly what you wanted?
Ok, now put that article on your website!
Then write articles related to that and submit them to article directories, with a backlink to the article on your website.
Can you guess what will happen now?
People will take your articles from the article directories and put them on their websites, with a backlink to the article on your site.
And ZOOOOM, the article will rank high for your keyword phrase and you will get free traffic to your website from all the searches!

I just stumbled over an amazing marketing technique I never saw before!
Offer a valuable product for 5 cent! (limited time!!)
What do you think, how many people will open your email if you offer it to your email list (if you have one)?
And how many will click through the offer and buy it, if you offer a real valuable product? It's a NO-BRAINER!
Then when they click on the order button, you give them the possibility to buy another product in addition!
(Again there's a salescopy to convince)
What I saw was the Private Label Rights to the same product AND another ebook. Both seem very good and new books (didn't see them anywhere else), over 100 pages long.

Ok, here's one great technique how to presell an affiliate product with an ebook.
You choose a great product, that you want to promote, and then you contact the creator of that product, to make an interview with him.
You can put that interview as a audio file and as a PDF transscript. Voila, you have product to sell. Such products have generally a high perceived value. Sell it for a small price, to make as many sales as possible, because you will sell the higher priced affiliate product in your ebook.
In your ebook, just on the next page after the table of contents, you can put the offer for the affiliate product. You can just copy and paste parts of the salesletter, probably at best the headlines, first paragraphs and some benefits, and a call to action and put your affiliate link in. The product owner should be ok with it, because you will sell his product. If in doubt, you can ask him.
The great thing is, that the offer is ABSOLUTELY targeted! It's the exact same theme, why the people bought your product, and the affiliate product you sell is even from the SAME PERSON who was interviewed by you. That means, it's very likely that they are hungry for even more information. It's very likely that while they love the interview, that they see, that person is an expert, and that they want ALL the best information from him that they can get, to reach their goals. And the people are proven buyers.
Also you can put some links for the affiliate product into the interview, when it fits. So your interview partner should (and naturally probably would anyway) mention his product sometimes during the interview.
That's preselling at it's best.
Instead of putting in just an affiliate link, you can create a extra domain for it, where people can opt in to a email list, where you presell the affiliate product. That way, you have more chances to follow up with these interested people and educate them more about the product.
You can also sell a few more things in the ebook, but don't overdo it, else it will make a bad impression on the people.

I like to send solo ads to ezines and credit based safelists. Each time I send out I bring in new subscribers to my list and I also get sign ups to my progrm. Once my subscribers fill out my page and they don't sign up, then they are sent and 8 day ecourse over the course of 8 day. The system I utilize has multiple streams of income and an advertising system that is so duplicatable that anyone with a will to succeed could copy it, put in some work and be successful.

Selling is defined as to exchange or delivers for money or its equivalent. It is the art of influencing others on how products or services can benefit the customers.
For online marketers it is very important to keep the ball rolling in business, to stay on top in order to help and show others on how to succeed. How do we do this? Simple we SELL. I don’t want to sound rude but this verse doesn’t work for me ‘You need not to sell in this business’, so how do you call it a business if you don’t sell, being in business is requires selling The question is HOW?
Being a successful entrepreneur and a mentor. I found simpler ways and better techniques when doing selling, I wanted to share these techniques to you and I hope that this will help.
a.) Appearance is everything- I don’t literally mean that you should be on a coat and a tie or in business attire, in an online marketing we can still sell even if we are in our pajamas, this is very true. What I am trying to implore is Branding, it is very important, you will attract the market to know you, because you presented yourself well, if the market will like you, the market will find ways to know you more, if the market, knows you more, a good rapport is built, once a rapport is built, there is trust between you and the market, the market will chase you down, instead of you chasing people. Once the market calls you, this is where you start to keep the ball rolling.
b.)Determine the needs- This is another technique in selling. On the manner that the market calls you and ask you about what you do and what is the nature of your business, BEWARE!, it means ‘What is it in for me’, How will I benefit from your business? You see, people are like iceberg, the biggest part is hidden below the surface, there is more to liking you and purchasing your product, but the emotions, the dreams. How will you help these people in achieving their dreams?
c.)Communication is the tool- One of the selling techniques that is very useful.
You are not in a guessing game. In order to determine the need, you need to get feedbacks, ask questions about your customers, you need to use the tool WHY?, example Why do they need the business? Why do they need the money?
d.) Sympathize- get the idea of the Why?, understand the feeling, what will you feel if you are in that situation. This will let you determine on how to help the customers achieved their dreams.
e.) Show the way on how to find solutions to the why? By doing this you will let the customers know that you are really there to help them and not by considering the customers as another additional commission.
Branding, determining the needs, communicating well, sympathizing and showing the way on how to succeed, is the way of influencing the market to buy you, after all influencing others is the true essence of selling.

I have found the best way to Internet Marketing is a combination of techniques. From adwords, forums, website, e-articles and blogging. There is no secret you just have to educate yourself if you don't know how to work google adwords educate yourself. If you don't know how to work ezine's educate yourself. Yes sometimes the education comes in the forms of books or affiliate marketing sites because thats what the majority of them are for to educate. If you only pickup one peice of good advice your better off than the day before.
