Hello...
I'm thinking about becoming an affiliate and I have some basic experience with building websites. I've found my niche and my new domain name. I read a lot on this forum to learn as much as possible before going in action. While reading, I found this line on one post (sorry for the author, I lost trace of your post). I was just wondering what was the meaning of "opt-in". What is it? I supposed it's related to customers leaving their adress but can someone give me an example?

Hi there. I guess that post was mine. 
Your guess is correct. An opt-in is simply a form where a visitor can leave their name and email address in order to receive a follow-up messages or bonuses offerer by the owner of a website.
I'm sure you have seen a lot of website nowadays have this sort of form.
If you really want to see a sample, you can check out my signature and look of the bottom of the page where I live a form for visitors if they want the free bonus I'm offering.
(I hope the moderator don't delete my above post as I only want to show the example and not trying to sell anything here)

Yes optin is where you leave your name and email address for a free report or other free stuff....
the person will often email you from time to time offering you free material....and special offers....

Opt in is one of those phrases we never heard of until internet marketing came along. One definition I like is opt in is process where by a user voluntarily agrees to start receiving email about a topic of interest.
I guess the key word is voluntarily.

If you're new to affiliate marketing, please realize that your OWN opt-in list is the only way to go for email marketing campaigns. It takes a lot of time to build your own list using this method, but in the end, you'll have a quality list of people who are interested in what you have to offer. Don't fall for buying lists. There are a lot of scammers out there selling mailing lists and using them will very likely get you accused of spamming.
