Post subject: Separating resources from competitors

All,
I have a question that I haven't seen addressed in any of the guides that I've read.
I have found a very interesting niche, with people that are very hungry for information about their hobby (sometimes very exacting information), and willing to spend allot of money on it.
My problem is that the information side is very well taken care of. There are many sites that have huge amounts of info on the specifics of each area of this niche, at least the theory part of it.
Everything that actually involves the part of actually going out and doing this activity are completely spread out and not very well taken care of. Hopefully that's where I come in, since this is where the money gets spent.
My question is at what point do pure information sites become a competitor for your prospects time, and search engine ratings, if not your customer’s money?
Also is their any big draw back to linking to a pure information site, for those who want more info, or is it just a better idea to write your own pages and not link out of your site (keep in mind that this can be very specific and sometimes dry information)?
I like this niche but not enough to become an absolute expert in it (I don’t have the interest nor the years to do that). And trust me, in the area I'm looking at, no one is the single expert on the minutia. Along with that there are a few sites where many experts have come together to put the sites together.
Thanks for the help yet again. |
