Post subject: Making better Use Of A Website
|
|
|
Hello,
I was wondering is i could get some advice on how to better monetarize one of the sites I own.
The site can be found at : http://www.mlm-opportunities.com
The Good:
* I have ranked nr 1 on the keyword mlm opportunities for quite a long time
[nb: some sites pay > 50 $ cents for this keyword at Overture]
* With the keyword mlm opportunity I rank 3 using copernic agent
* with the keyword cashring I rank 1 using Copernic
* the website needs very little maintenance
* The site has a Google page rank of 4
* Website traffic amounts to approximately 70 visitors daily
* I have managed to atract a lot of affiliate signups for the cashring opportunity.
The Bad:
* Not a very inspiring web design
The Ugly:
* The programs I "promote" don't bring in any money.
(Maybe the Google ads do, but I can't figure that out)
So the conclusion is I have a site which scores fairly well with the search engines,
attracts some traffic, is easy to update but doesn't contribute income wise.
Any suggestions to improve my website performance are more then welcome.
Thanks,

The site looks pretty good - it looks simple & that is one of the best things. The first page is quite long - that might be a deterrent to some people. But then again - it might be that way to help with the search engines?
I would try to shorten it some. Sometimes - a lot of words "freak" people out. Shorter pages might be better. _________________ Corey

I wouldn't change the structure of a page that has good rankings. Leave it alone as far as keyphrases and length.
Your site is a hardsell. You don't help me, guide me, provide me with tips to guide me into your MWR. The minute I hit your page your MWR hits me in the face like a dead fish.
Not only that but I can't get anywhere else. I go to your sitemap and no matter what I clicked I end up back at your main page, except when I clicked a link to your merchant. This is extremely frustrating and made me want to leave your site.
You offer no useful information to help me, but want me to click to your merchant? I am very surprised Google hasn't dropped your site due to the lack of content and round robin to the home page on sitemap links.
Sorry, I know this is harsh, but that's how I see it.

Allan, the site isn't really MLM, just the domain is. It's Sitesell products he is promoting quite prominently on that domain.

BTW Kl57, I can't imagine that domain name is much help either, considering the target of your page. _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

Debs, thanks for pointing that out.
Raymond, Good grief! You're taking a serious risk of being banned from the SiteSell affiliate program. Your domain name would be bad enough, but you're presenting SiteSell under a huge heading "MLM Opportunities", which it is not.
In short, you're misrepresenting what the company offers. I'm not saying you're doing it deliberately, but you're misleading your visitors.
Imagine you owned SiteSell. How would you respond if you saw an affiliate doing that? You'd act fast to stop it, wouldn't you?

Dear Raymond,
It seems you promote your site as MLM opportunities, but it's not at all about MLMs! (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) It's about affiliate programs. This is like calling your site all-about-nascar-racing.com, and then trying to sell people used cars. What good does it do to have a number one spot for "mlm opportunities" if your site doesn't discuss MLMs?
Also, to be successful as an affiliate, you need real and useful content. Right now you have only a single page of content, as far as I can see! You also have lots of those "smart pages" that all point to your single page of content. "Smart pages" will bring you traffic (if you're lucky enough not to be banned) but they won't help you unless you have real content.
What also strikes me is that you embarked upon creating a site on how to make money using affiliate programs not being able to make money with affiliate programs yourself. Doesn't that seem wrong? Your first choice of topics was a highly competitive subject you know little about! I'm sorry mister, but you'll have to redo this homework assignment.
My prescription is to read the SBI action guide carefully, read the SBI case studies on AssociatePrograms.com, and choose a better topic for your site. Perhaps MLM oportunities is a good topic, but your site has to actually be about MLMs, and it has to have content.
Regards,
Yaron
P.S.
Why did you name a site about affiliate programs mlm-opportunities.com? |

Again thanks for the very usefull input.
The site has been mine for a considerable long time. The domain name sounded ok but I didn't give the content much thought.
So what i'll do now is completely delete the web pages (today) and start from scratch using your iinput and the info on this site in general.
Thanks
