Post subject: Making money blogging.
|
|
|
| I'm relatively new to blogging, however, I love doing it. I hear of plenty of people making money from their blog. I am a realist. With realistic expectations and I want to do this right. I am interested in so many different things, and once I choose a niche I'm going to use my adsense to gain income. Any suggestions on a niche, or a good way to build traffic? |

Hi Jason!
Hate to burst your bubble, but there is a difference between loving something and earning an income.
I love underwater-chess playing, but I used Google's keyword tool and there is very little demand. I'm also very good at growing square pumpkins, but again no one else is much interested.
It would be great if you are lucky enough to love what you do and have passion for it, but it doesn't always work out that way.
I don't like blogs and I'll tell you why.
Everyone does it. There must be 60,000 blogs on the web. Maybe 100,000.
So the spiel usually goes something like this. "Hey you can make millions. Just find a passion and throw up a blog, ping the heck out of it, RSS it and then throw up some Adsense ads and sip your favorite drink on the beaches of the world".
That's hogwash.
If you like to blog then be prepared to write a lot. A whole lot. Next, be prepared to babysit your blog everyday after your traffic starts to increase if you're lucky enough to get more than 15 people to read it. (no fair counting friends or relatives).
Next, be prepared for all the link hunters who just post to get link backs to their sites and finally be prepared for all the "goofy nut jobs" who get off pontificating to the world.
In closing, most of us are becoming Adsense blind. I know that's not popular, but my brain deletes Adsense ads when I'm viewing a site or a blog. A couple of years ago the little buggers were kind of cute and fun. Now they are a pain in the butt and when you work so hard to get traffic, is it really in your best interest to have people leave your site or blog for .45 cents?
I don't know. Maybe I'm kind of a "goober" but I don't much like "wooing a girl and then when she's ready to go out with me, passing her off to a friend of mine for a few cents." Kinda makes me feel cheap.
You would be better off building a great content site and maybe offering Content 2.0 if you want interaction with site visitors.
Just my 3 cents _________________ Webmaster Alert

in my personal experience, adsense is not the best way to go if you are not a huge name in blogs/blogging (Huffington, TechCrunch, Boing Boing). if you are the new kid on the block, i would recommend staying away from adsense altogether. why? people will think you are in it for the money. and people are smart today. they know a google ad when they see one, and sometimes will spite you and not click one ever. i had a blog getting about 1,500 visitors a day. not bad i guess. now, thats like 45,000 a month. some will say these are horrible numbers, but for me at the time they were excellent. now, even i made a 1% conversion, that should be 450 clicks a month. i should be receiving a check some time soon right? nope. my account is still hovering around the 12 dollar mark (only 88 dollars to go for a paycheck. yay). i think i am going to make up a formula right at this moment:
if people know you+ tons of traffic= use adsense
if people dont know you + some traffic= no adsense
i would personally go with something like a few clickbank products. i would spend some time preselling some of those. take an active approach, rather than using a passive adsense approach. or, if you are that hard up/creative/willing to do some PTP (paid to post), youre time may be worth more with something like that. look into it first though, and dont go in like a gunslinger. i would stay away from the big powerhouses like cj and linkshare until you are up and running, have a good audience, and when revenue is a reality, rather than something that is a headache to try to achieve.
good luck with your ventures and decisions. _________________ A Veteran Noob. Playing the Marketing Card Game (again). |

I have never been into blogs. I don't find them visually appealing. Usually when I come across them I leave the site within 30 seconds. I have read a lot about them and how others have made money with them, but I just have not gotten into it. _________________ Place your ad on our high traffic lead generation site for FREE. http://www.interleads.net/partners/ |
