I had a site up for about a year and occasionally it would shut down and say:

"Bandwidth Limit Exceeded
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.
Apache/1.3.37 Server at www. website . com Port 80"

I would notify the administrator and they would create more bandwidth and then it would be up and running again. It would do this earlier each month as the year progressed. Then this past July the administrator said they were no longer able to keep my site on their server. I did nothing since then and the site has continued to say the same thing as above. I shouldn't have left it like that for so long but on the hand I didn't see how it could be causing any problems. Today someone is calling me cuz'in and swear'in claiming that I'm violating copyright laws and causing their site to crash.

Is this even possible? Whether it is or not, what is the quickest way for me to officially pull the plug on this site from within cpanel, like I should have done 5 months ago?

Thank you,
Numskull Newbie Rolling Eyes

If you are having problems with your site being down a lot, then yes you should move to another hosting company. If youre problem is something like too many images that are extremely huge, maybe you should find an alternative, such as flickr, photobucket etc. You could even push the limits there and open several accounts to keep up with their bandwidth limits. There are a lot of things you can do to keep your bandwidth down as well. For example, compressing all of your .txt, .css, .php etc files down to their basic elements (no commenting and or whitespace). At the end of the day, you'll be saving at least a little bandwidth for non essential elements. If all else fails, go with a big hosting company. Just make sure you back up everything first off of the server to your home computer.

I solved my bandwidth problem by getting a dedicated server. No longer was bandwidth a problem. I certainly got tired of users that couldn't hit the site.

You should be able to see your Monthly Bandwidth Transfer on cPanel, and obviously u need to get unlimited bandwidth package.

How much bandwidth did you use to exceed the limit?

If it isn't too much, perhaps you can move to another hosting that offers more. But careful, they may oversell and shut your site down for no reason.

Do your own due diligence before signing up.

Whether it is possible, we don't know but you can know better. Simply look at the web stats and see the bandwidth you use over the months.

Try moving to a VPS or dedicated server if that is necessary.

Get another web hosting company that offers more or even unlimited bandwidth. What you had experienced is not normal and should never had happened.

if you need help choosing different web hosting, let me know. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post any links here.

Good luck!

P.S. You don't have to give up your domain name if you move to a different web hosting company. You may still keep it though some might charge you extra for this.
