Which is better: Affiliate networks or direct merchants when looking for a product to promote?

I think affiliate networks are better, because you don't have to worry about not getting paid, and there are a lot of alternatives that you can choose from.

I've been doing affiliate marketing for over 7 years and I personally prefer to use affiliate networks. All of your commissions get consolidated into one larger check by most of the affiliate networks. Many of them also offer datafeeds, a few methods of payout, etc.

I have signed up with a few affiliate networks and a few direct merchants.

Affiliate networks are great in that you can sign up with quite a few merchants and know that all the sales you make will go into the one payment, and as mentioned, the datafeeds are great also.

Direct merchants are also worth signing up with, but make sure the product/service matches what you are willing to promote, the tracking is lifetime or recurring, and commissions can be 2nd tier as well. Some of the direct merchants also have other tools that an affiliate marketer can utilise.

Some direct merchants pay immediately direct to your paypal after the sale. That's the case with all the people who use the "7 dollar script" - some use it even to sell higher priced products. I've seen one for about $30 I think. It's always nice 100% commission.

Why they give 100%? Because it's a awesome way to build a email list with proven buyers.

I promote ticket broker affiliate programs and most of them use different networks. The other thing that comes into play with me is location. IF at all possible, I try to link the customer to a ticket broker who is in the city of the event I am promoting. Customers will find better prices that way.

I am not promoting affiliate networking because I am directly related with this. Only a network can guarantee full and final payment to affiliates. It mediates between merchants and affiliates by keeping record of all clicks, actions and sales generated through affiliate links. Join a network to feel the difference.

I prefer networks (iīm an affiliate) but for the marketer the topic isnīt clear. There are many disadvantages.

However, i must tell, there are very good programs outs of networks, serious and proffesional, if you find one of this, is better an independent program.

Regards and good luck

Foolishness. Nothing could be further from the truth. Many merchant run programs have tracking software and if you had a dispute over payment, wouldn't you prefer to talk to the people that owe you the money instead of a middleman? This looks like pro-network spam designed to scare people into clicking on their link and signing up under them.

I do it by evaluating:

1. The reputation of the product.

2. Company.

3. Commission structure.

4. Investment amount if needed. But i prefer free products.

5. Mode of payment.

6. Popularity

The 2 most important things to me in an affiliate program is:

The commissions need to be AT LEAST 2% of the sale

and

The cookie should be 30 days or more
