Hi,

I have a new iPod site and a new book about iPods. What are the best ways to drive traffic to my site and make sales ? Since getting SE traffic is hard and takes a long time, what are the best paid ways ? I'm a little afraid of Google Adwords because I have lost lots of money with them in the past.

Any proven ideas ?

Hi Ken, here are 4 ideas you can run with - we use these across our various infoproduct businesses each week.

1. Start a blog, post updates at least a few times each week and submit to the various blog directories. You will find it will get picked up by the SE's quickly which gets you some decent early exposure. We recently published the results we have achieved with blogging here:

2. Commit to finding at least 3 new JV partners each month (of course nothing stops you from forming many more) by first seeking out ideal partners who already have traffic and loyalty built up toward iPod users (iPod ezines, iPod forums, iPod membership sites, iPod accessory sales sites) then via a system of having them review your product move them toward a partnership with you.

3. Press release. Pull some newsworthy concepts out of your product and write your own press release around them. At the worst, you will gain incoming links from your PR's, if you get the right news slant you can do much better by having your PR's picked up by national or local pubs.

4. Write articles. Commit to writing two articles each week. They can be timely, tips articles, news, etc... and start by submitting through some of the more reputable article submission directories. Ideally, after a few weeks, you want to begin monitoring where your articles are being picked up and start approaching the publishers directly - another method of creating joint venture partnerships.

Lots of other ways including viral reports, creating audios and podcasts, offline advertising, etc...

Finally, make sure you have an opt-in option to capture names of those who do not want to purchase immediately so you can "drip" on them over time with your own offer and even partner with others to offer their products.

Hi ken,
Some more tips you could try.

get a affiliate program. (E.g join clickbank & get affiliate promote your ebook through adwords). Make sure to keep the commision high for affiliates . The affiliates will soon pick it up. At the moment ipod is a popular market on clickbank due to the emergence of p2p ipod movies.Take advantage of this

If your ebook is of high quality try selling them on ebay / amazon reseller program. There are a host of other online sites which will sell your ebooks.

When selling ebooks don't limit to search engine traffic. Spread it throughout the net in any way possible.

Hi keblack,
You're a lucky one. What jbsmith and mikelombardy disclosed here are proven and tested way of getting long lasting traffic that other people are selling for $$$$. Not temporary traffic like Adwords.

Unless you're trained at Adwords / PPC, it's more likely your're going to lose money than earning. So, the only other choice of getting TARGETED traffic would be as what jbsmith and mikelombardy said. Just follow each step. Do it with persistent and you shall see the results very soon. (Off course, it's slightly slower than Adwords)

Ah..ha, and if you've an affiliate program, pls promote the program extensively instead of the product. You'll be surprised at the results.

Personally for me it seems most of my eBook sales come from mentioning something in my newsletter or in a email follow-up series of messages on a specific product. I read once that a person needs as many as 12 exposures to act on something so email follow-up with an autoresponder seems to work the best.

Social bookmarking is becoming more and more popular recently with all big name gurus propound it to have helped them make truck load of cash.

Learn more about them...it could be a very good source of traffic. Time required is comparatively short and the outcome is satisfactory.

Not only social bookmarking, also social marketing in general, Myspace, Squidoo...

But it's good not do to a bit here and a bit there, but MASTER one method, until it brings good results, and then master the next method.
Adwords is also something you can master, but it's not easy as ist seems.

Natural SE traffic is also one of the best recources, as Andy Jenkins and Brad Fallon have proven. I can anly again and again recomend their free "Going Natural" videos on stomperblog.

And Yes, there can be no better then having your own affiliate "army". But therefore you need an outstanding product and great promotion techniques, joint venture partners and so.

Nothing comes easy.

hey ken,

heres pretty much how i manage my new niche sites

1) Write 5 articles and submit them using Isnare.com, then manually submit them to high PR article sites such as ezinearticles.com etc.

2) I start an affiliate program. You can use services to submit your affiliate program to major affiliate directories.

3) I search newsletters and ezines owners for potential JVs or Solo Ads to send out. They are pretty cheap to get started with.

4) I start building my links at linkmarket.net, linkmetro, linksmaster and so on... SEO takes time but its worth the effort in the long run...

5)I outsource my directory submissions to about 700 directories. They may out be very high quality links but it still helps.

6) I buy text links for specific keywords that I wanted to rank well.

Keep repeating them and you will see a constant traffic coming in soon.. Articles marketing is one of the most effective ways to getting fast & tragetted traffic to your site.

I believe one of the best methods is to recruit an army of affiliates to promote your product.

Give the highest affiliate commission you can give, and provide a full line up of tools (articles, ads, banners, viral reports, keywords, tips, etc.) that your affiliates can use.

If you're using Clickbank, have your product listed in the Clickbank marketplace; and attract affiliates by writing a compelling benefit of joining your affiliate program.
