Post subject: Affiliate programs and PageRank
|
|
|
Hi Friends,
Okay, Everyone might have run an affiliate program. Do you know any affiliate software which gains us PageRank along with Link popularity when the affiliates link to us? Generally Affiliate softwares (like AssocTrac.com) claim that they gain Link popularity to the affiliate manager when affiliates link to the affiliate manager's website. But they do not claim if their software would gain the affiliate managers PageRank too?
I have seen an internet friend of mine running an affiliate software which gains him PageRank too! But he has developed that software himself. And i am looking for a readymade affiliate solution which increases the PageRank and link popularity when affiliates link to me.
Got any good or bad experience with your affiliate software? Lets share them
Maany Thanks!
Best Regards,

Hello Tushar.

The big problem is URLs that contain a query string of some kind - a ? ("pling") followed by some variable(s) for a script to access...
Most affiliate software uses URLs of this type, but unfortunately SEs consider URLs with different query strings to be unique so the "real" page does not benefit from all the "incoming" links.
For anyone who loves this stuff (even more than I do), Sean Burns touches on it in his SE book "Rankings Revealed" and Ralph Wilson talks about it in "How to Optimize Your Landing Pages Scientifically".
Neither of these books are specifically about affiliate software, but the issue of URL type and SE linking benefits are essentially the same.
Hope this helps,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

If you can do a proper redirect so that the SE's think the page has moved, then you should be able to pass some PR on.
Sean would be the authority on this. _________________ Robert

I think this is a different issue...
I reckon Tushar is trying to boost the PR (and general SE ranking) of the existing (same old location) sales page on a merchant's site by leveraging the "incoming" links used by affiliates when they send traffic to the merchant.

You're right, he would be... I guess he's busy these days. Doesn't seem to post much.
All the best,

In the latest edition of his excellent newsletter Sean tells that he has been a little unwell lately, and he is indeed busy building another monster site.
All the best,
