I'm in a quandry. I've got 9 luggage manufactures that are searched 40-90 times according to Wordtracker, but I can't find an affiliate program for them. I've found one or two stand-alones (i.e. only covers 1 manufacturer) but for the most part, I'm on my own. (I don't want to list 15 affiliate programs on my product page!)

Should I write the articles anyway, and rely on Adsense for those pages (which I know is a no-no) or just not write the articles? The other problem is, as per Overture, the highest bid for the brand names (with mostly unrelated websites - shopping.com, ebay.com) have not so great bids.. mainly between 0 (1 or 2) to .40c. The best was .65c.

Advice please! Smile

You might want to try integrating eBay listings on those pages. I decided to forgo product pages per se for my wedding site, as there are only four heavily searched items related to decorating for a wedding. So, on article pages that focus on those types of products, I added a small eBay listing to the side under a "Featured Merchant" heading. You might consider doing the same. Or add a four or five line eBay listing at the end of the article body. EBay pays 10c per bid or Buy It Now purchase and a minimum $20 bounty for new eBay customers.

I'm not 100% certain what you mean by that.. could you elaborate or perhaps PM me your URL?

I had thought about ebay. Is it worth it though? Honestly, do you get alot of click throughs for that? And what about expiring auctions? (I'm sure there's a way around that, just haven't signed up to ebay as an affiliate, so I've never seen how it works.)

My thought process with ebay is really, what rock must you have been living under to have found my site and not be signed up with ebay already? Wink

Ok, so I guess I'll write the articles. I just wish I could find an affiliate that sold at least a couple (like louis vuitton - OMG have you seen HOW EXPENSIVE they are?!?!) of the manufacturers I'm missing.. sigh.

Thank you for your advice! And if anyone else has an opinion, I'd love to hear it!!

What about writing an article comparing them to the brands that you do have affiliate programs for? It would not be to hard, and at least you have a shot at getting the visitor to click thru to the merchant - which is the goal.

Sure, I'll PM a URL to you.

One other thing I forgot to mention is to consider SHOP.com. I discovered that some online merchants that don't publicize an affiliate program on their site offer products on SHOP.com, which does offer an affiliate program. I used that as a backdoor, you can too.

I went to SHOP.com and did a search for "louis vuitton". One listing came up for SmartBargains.com. I went there and did a search. Two items came up. SmartBargains.com has an affiliate program offering 8% commission. The selection is slim, but those are two affiliate links you could use.

My thought process about eBay is the same. But for a potential $20 bounty, why not put it out there?

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but it has sparked an idea. i.e. Comparing "samonite" (a funny for those of you that read that thread) to louis vuitton, and x, y and z. All in one article, so the "unuseable" manufacturers become the tier-1 and tier-2 keywords. If that's what you meant, sorry to rip off your idea! Smile It's not a bad idea at all. And heck, cuts down on articles I have to write! (Never a bad thing for me)

Thanks!

Also a good idea. I think I may come up with a cross between your and bsrnjones' idea. Or maybe another one entirely: create myself a special folder in my website documents with articles that are directly linked to merchants. I've done it with a couple of articles (yet to be published) as a test, because while I'm getting a few searches a day, I'm lucky if 10% (probably 1/2 - 1/4 of that is more realistic) even get to my product pages.

I am getting a few adsense clicks, but I'd LOVE to see even a $1 sale at CJ! Oh, and of those who actually DO get to my product pages, my CTR is beyond abysmal. I can go DAYS without a click on my affiliate links. I don't know if I expect too much too fast - like other gen x'ers Wink

I created a version of Power Niche Ads and implemented it on my top three pages in place of the Google AdSense box. Any clicks on those links went directly to my affiliate merchant sites. I got 24 clicks in two days with no sales. Looking at the stats I was capturing, I could see that visitors were clicking the links just seconds apart. So they weren't doing any buying; just looking. I was making more money with AdSense, so I put it back on those pages. I still have affiliate links at the bottoms of my main pages and on the buyer's guide page for serious shoppers.

I only wish the AdSense advertisers wrote as good of copy as I did.. Very Happy

I hadn't thought of doing something like that, but I sure won't now!

And I know what you mean about adsense! Laughing

Ebay --- WOW! I have made about $1.70 in 10 cent bids from them since January and not a single sign up commision.
I have an affiliate I that I have over 600 page views and a 13.x% clickthrought rate, but not a single purchase.
I have 4 websites and make less than $10 a day in google cash, often less than $5. Of course a couple of my sites seem to still be in the google sandbox, so that doesn't help.

This is an intersting way to make a living. I've read a lot of the guru publications and it brings to mind this quote:
"It's Already 10a.m. - Why Aren't I A Millionaire Yet??"

Ebay is one of the worst programs out there. I met the people that run the program and I was not impressed. I worked with them for 6 months and wasted a lot of time. adsense rules in that spot

I have pages talking about making money on ebay, so I figured I might as well put in their affiliate ads. I don't have adsense on those pages. I may change that and see if it increases the income.

HEY!, I had my first $10.xx day yesterday...........spead over 4 websites. Getting rich here, I tell you! Rolling Eyes
