I have read that Google does not recognize a link to
your site unless that site has a page rank of at least
4/10. Is this true or should I try and get as many links
as I can from related sites no matter what there
page rank is?

I don't want to be wasteing my time.

When you do a backlinks check, Google only shows backlinks with a 4/10 or higher PR, but they will track the others.

The thing to keep in mind is ... what's a lower PR today, could skyrocket tomorrow. So long as links are relevant to your content, and provide quality to your visitors, then they are worthwhile.

You just want to be careful you aren't exchanging with a bad site or neighborhood.

Check out the posts in the Link section of the forum, there is more there on exchanging links and what to watch out for.

High PR links are always good to aim for, but some people do very well with a large number of low quality links.

Take Allan Gardyne's AssociatePrograms.com, for example. This has content, and no doubt some good links, but many "low quality" ones, too. Considering his homepage is optimised for "affiliate programs", yet most people are linking to him using the domain name as the anchor text, his "reputation" is indeed in question! Wink

(That was a pun about a page's SE reputation, by the way, certainly not Allan's. I thought I'd better make that clear before the flames start arriving! Laughing )

Debs makes some good points regarding linking, which are worth bearing in mind.

Also, don't forget the advantages links provide for getting a new site found by Google.

All the best,
Charlie.
