I was just curious about this, since I've seen and heard everything here from people doing around 20 to 1500! articles for each site.
So, if you do mind telling, how many articles do you have on your Martell sites? I usually put more on my more general sites, but I tend to do a little over 100.
In your experience, is that enough to be successful with these (in general)?

I thought I'd done quite a lot of article pages but I've just counted them and I only have 17! _________________ Check out my blog. Just started it, and testing the water to see how it goes.

Depends on the site. All of my Martell style ones have at least 100 articles. My newer ones are starting with 200, minimum.
I do outsource most of my writing, which makes this more possible. _________________ Robert

What I'd recommend you do is set aside so much of your income, once it starts coming in; say 50%. Then use that strictly for outsourcing content.
By doing this you're helping to create a self-sustaining snowball. _________________ Robert

The BIGGER the BETTER!
There is no limit.
There is an endless supply of keywords
for ANY niche if you dig enough.
I want my sites to eventually be 1000++
pages however long it takes.
I'm in this for the long term.
Here's what I think....
More people are looking for information online every
year and buying, so those keywords and variations that
are searched only 5 times will increase.
Also I think more and more merchants are
coming online, so the google adsense bids
will go up.
Let's get BIIIGGGEEEERRRRRR...

Absolutely, but more is always better. _________________ Robert

| I think a site can be too big! If your site is over 500 - 600 articles then the keyword is not targeted enough on your domain. just my opionin |

For those who follow or endorse Ken Evoy's methods. Didn't Ken Evoy say that when your site reaches 200 pages, it's harder for all the pages to be indexed by the search engines? Didn't he say that most engines won't index 241 pages. Please enlighten me. Is there really a limit to the number of pages? _________________ Ten Real World Sample Sites |

Search engines will index as many pages as you have on your website if the linking structure is done correctly..
I have a couple of Martell style sites that have over 1500 pages and no problem with getting all the pages in the index.. |

pages get indexed. Forget thinking of the net as sites and start thinking in terms of pages.
Falcon,
You might want to think about utilizing a content management system or a database system.
It should be no problem to load a few hundred pages in less than a few hours.
I have gone a step further and use Express Engine. My writers input their edited articles into a form like you are using now on this board. Then all I have to do is hit "approve" or post or whatever.
That is if I am dealing with my personal portfolio of sites. Within my business someone else does it all.
Systems allow you to enjoy your money. _________________ Gekko Speaks-The spot where my alter ego rants and raps about business and internet strategy. |

He did, but I took it to mean in the context of deciding how big a niche should be. There is certainly plenty of historic evidence of large sites being fully indexed, but external links to internal pages and intelligent site maps will make all the difference.

The number 241 is derived from the homepage, 15 tier 1 pages and 15 tier 2 pages for each tier 1 page.
If you add 1, 15 and 225 (15x15) you get 241.
Ken used to suggest a max of 15 pages linked from any other, though this has been "upped" in the latest edition of the guide. (I can't remember what he says now, but I don't think the number is the point anyway.)

Absolutely not.
Cheers,
Charlie.

That's how it's worked out so far, but it will be interesting to see how the prophecies of site themes gaining in importance pan out. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
