Post subject: CrossLinking Question
|
|
|
Hello,
I have a question in regards to backward linking article pages within a site.
Can Article A have a backward to Article B, and Article B have a backward link to Article A? Or is this considered crosslinking and you could be penalized for this?
I realize the two articles should have related content.
Thanks,
David |

Hi David,
I think the problems arise when you cross link two sites together.
Cross linking pages _on the same site_ shouldn't be a problem. _________________ Free Forum And Ezine Hosting

| You can never inter-link too much within your own site. You have to provide a means to allow visitors a path to every location on your site. |

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your response. I didn't think it would be a problem.
Warm regards,

I wonder if the time will come when the engines decide to consider a certain form of site navigation as a deliberate attempt to manipulate the SERPS by an "unnatural" linking structure?
Time will tell,

Hi Charlie,
I'm certainly no genius when it comes to linking, crosslinking, Google protocol, etc.
But, say for example, you have an article on CNET about setting up a wireless network. There may be two or three articles in a series about this subject. It certainly wouldn't make any sense to penalize a linking structure that linked Part 1 to Part 2 and Part 3. They are all related and if I was trying to set up a wireless network, and only came into the site via the 2nd part, I'd surely be upset if I couldn't find a link to Part 1 (and/or Part 3).
I don't see how linking two (or more) related articles on the same site could be considered "an unnatural linking structure."
But, that's just MHO. And MHO has been wrong before.
Warmly,

Welcome to the club, Gail. The recipe's a secret, but feel free to stir the soup - everyone else does.

Neither do I, but I don't think it would be considered "unnatural" or excessive cross-linking if the different sections were on different sites, either.
For me, the interesting point is why excessively cross-linked sites need to be penalised at all. Couldn't the "closely associated" group of sites just be considered as a large site by the engines for determining linking benefits?
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

LOL! That soup must surely be mush now, Charlie, as often as it get stirred!

I would tend to agree. And I'm personally wondering if Google isn't doing some "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" in an effort to reduce artificial manipulations to its results.
Warm regards,
