Post subject: Anyone hurt on google for linking to Martell's sites

| Are there any publishers out there that published any of Martell's articles that linked to the sites that are now banned from google? If so how has it affected your sites? |

| I guess I will add to the question. Do you think if you have a site that had linked to several of his sites through articles he had written that it would have an adverse affect on your site? |

Links to various Martell sites have been posted on this forum, and we're still in Google. _________________ Allan Gardyne

| Do you think if there are enough links on a website to a website (or group of websites) that have been banned by google it could negatively affect your serp placements. |

There are a lot of ingredients in the SERP stew. If you linked to 100 sites that had been banned by Google for being low-quality, spammy, bad-neighborhood sites, then you would probably be banned too. You are who you link to, after all.
On the other hand, if you linked to 100 high quality well-respected authority sites in your niche, and you linked to 1 page on 1 site that had been banned by Google for being low-quality, spammy, and in a bad neighborhood, then I would say that you probably would NOT be banned by Google.
(And please don't construe this post as casting any kind of aspersion on James's site. The hypothetical situations above are just meant to be illustrative.) _________________ Affiliate Marketing Programs Blog

Thank you rlray216,
We were not banned by google but we have lost a lot of ground lately.
We looked at all of the articles and links on our site and the only ones we could see that had links that lead to sites that were no longer on google were the ones that lead to his sites. We had quite a number of them. And I agree you are who you link to, (and I am not knocking him either), just trying to figure out if we could have lost a lot of ground on google because of all these links.
We foolishly should not have had so many on our site. We agreed to publish the articles so it is our own fault if that is indeed what caused it. I am just looking to see it that is the problem and a solution if it is. |

Actually, I think total bans are pretty rare, but ironically, penalties can seem worse, since at least with a ban you know you've done something very naughty.
Trying to second guess a penalty can be nigh on impossible.
Just a thought,
