Hi there,
I want to create a .COM website and am looking for good deals on buying a domain name and web hosting with decent bandwidth, and disk space at a cheap PRICE!

I like 1and1.com for the hosting. And I use GoDaddy.com for the domain name.
1and1.com has slightly cheaper domain names, but since I already had a bunch, I kept (and still keep) all my domains with GoDaddy.com
If you read the threads below, there are several other good hosting packages available. Many offer domain names as well. Don't pay more than $10 for a .com domain name.

Hi there,
I'm still a newbie in these things so I'd like to get things straight!
Registering a web domain is simply getting a .com site. Payment is done once a year.
A web domain in itself is nothing unless you have some server to store the web pages - the term is web hosting. Web hosting is paid once a month (unless you go for a package). Web hosting companies offer services such as website monitoring etc (anything else?!)
What are subdomains? Are they simply pages leading from the homepage? Like if your website consists of 5 pages, you have 1 domain - the homepage and 5 subdomains - the 5 web pages?

Correct... mostly.
SubDomains are like this:
www.rlisolutions.com <-- my domain
sitebuildit.rlisolutions.com <-- a subdomain
Some hosting packages allow limited number of subdomains, some offer unlimited. Generally, subdomains should still fit into the same theme as your main site. A frequent use of submains is something like: "http://forums.somedomain.com/" Where the Forums is a subdomain, and takes you directly to that section.
There are all kinds of features with web hosting. Web Space, Bandwidth, Stats tracking, PHP (and other scripting) support, email accounts, virus protection, backups, search engine submission and so on. Hard to list them all. Basically, you need to decide what it is you want on your site, and find hosting that allows you to do that. 1and1.com is pretty open, and lets you install just about anything on your hosting package. Some packages do not allow that.

You can also check out this website http://www.smardomain.com.
It's new but you get the same service as godaddy, because it's based on affiliation with them, but cheaper.

Site5 is probably the best Hosting Company I have come across so far, they have the best support around (Usually within 15min). Their servers are very fast (I am from South Africa).
As far as domain names go, probably GoDaddy would be the best. There is also www.namecheap.com with very good prices...

I've been using Tera-Byte.com for the last few years for my clients and my sites. I've never noticed the sites go down, and good service. All of my clients have small sites, so go with their lowest priced package, which is $25/year and $9.95 for domain registration. It's the cheapest I've found, and works well. The host I use has a special going that expires today (2/28/05) where they will triple the standard amount of bandwith and disk space for the life of the account. This would mean that their cheapest package of $7.95/mo would gain you 120GB of monthly bandwith and 2400MB of disk space forever. They also give you a free domain registration that they renew for free each year as well as long as you are a customer.
I've been with them for over 4 years and absolutely love them!

May i know, how about the hosting package offered by 1and1?
It's notified that the business package, $9.99 per month. There are 3 domains was included? Anyone has any idea of it ? any experience?
