Post subject: How to Promote a Forum
|
|
|
I manage a local real estate website. I just created a community message board/real estate discussion forum with the hopes that it might eventually create some traffic for me. My question is, how do I get initial traffic? Looking at logs, it appears I have people hitting the site, but only one person (other than me) has posted. The forum is located at www.stlagent.com/forum if anyone wants to look at it and give me feedback. _________________ Thanks,

First of all, nice forum, interface is nice.
It's not easy to get people to post your forum, as a webmaster you should post alot of article to lead the way.
Try post as many article as you can. sometime you can try using few different name to post.
Just one man ideas. _________________ Khmer Website!

A few ideas...
Get lots of traffic to your site, and post a few quotes from interesting posts on the main page of your site, with links to your forum.
Mention interesting posts in your newsletter. (If you don't have interesting posts, you'll have to write them yourself.)
Add an RSS feed to your forum, and list the feed in RSS directories.
Get links from related sites.
Write articles and get them published on other sites and in article directories. Link to your forum in the resource box at the end. _________________ Allan Gardyne

We also have such problems...our company just made our tech support forum last monday, with hopes to create some traffic. But till now nobody registers the membership other than ourselves. can anybody here tell me how to devise ways to solve this problem. we urgently need your help.
BTW, do we have to post some messages ourselves to lead the way firstly? or there are some other good ideas to promote it?
You can view our forum to check what's the problem is.

Also... make sure your forum is spiderable by the SE's. This will draw in some free traffic over time.
One of the programming websites I help run recently switched from ezBoard to phpBB for its forums. We made a few tweaks to phpBB to ensure it would be spidered. Out traffic doubled in three months, and we now draw about 20% of our regular visitors into the forums. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

HI, can we send email to people inviting them to join our forum?
or do we just have to wait until someone search and enter our forum by themselves ?
thank you |

Yeah you know I always visit sites with lots of visitors and posts but getting the initial people to post is the most difficult. I have a board but don't focus on it anymore except if I want to advertise something quick and don't want to edit my web pages. I think make it easy to post like an easy sign up page without having to verify your email or wait to be accepted as a member that definately stops people from posting at a new board. Put you board in your siggy at similar boards to yours (if allowable there). _________________ Make Money On-line at TheCashRoom! Hi
My 5Cent comments:
-Getting Traffic from Relevant Sites -> Links Exchange
-Visual- the Right Column looks like alot of cut & paste ads
which does not look good. You may like to have a one-tone
background for all the ads.
Regards

Are you familiar with social bookmarking services? It's where people are sharing their links to something they found in WWW and posting comments on each other links. This is a great way to promote forum because you offer another way of social relationship - conversation. If you make some interesting topics on your forums and bring the links to people - you will receive great number of visitors.
So you need to take a look at this free report - www.mavericksocializer.com/free-report.html to learn more about social bookmarking.
And you really need to make some good topics on your forum if you want people to come here and joined discussion. |
