Post subject: MSN / Inktomi Drop Us Like a Rock!
|

Calling all SBIers.
Need to to check something.
For those of you who are listed with MSN via Inktomi do a check on your keywords that are ranked in the top 10 prior to October 1, 2003.
I am trying to see if we have all be dropped because of something MSN / Inktomi is doing. This seems to have happened beginning October 1.
I had several #1 and #2 listings and some of them are nowhere to be found anymore. So did another SBI. We just want to see if we are nuts or not!
This is a new thread following up on this post

Thanks,

Hi Ed,
From your post in a different string...

Try this. Do a search at MSN.com and put quote around your keywords. Do you show up at all?
|
I tried "state auto insurance law" (with quotes) and came up 2nd under their "Web Pages" listings.
I was just indexed by MSN and Inktomi on Oct 5, so I don't know whether I was ever ranked for that keyword or not.
Without the quotes, nothing.
Since I have the top 51 listings in their "Web Directory Sites" listings for "state auto insurance law" and "auto insurance law" (both without quotes), it's not really an issue for me. Still, I would also like to know if anything is up at MSN/Inktomi that we need to know about.
Hope this helps.

Just an update....
Been almost two weeks and the input from SBI support and Inktomi support (via positiontech and network solutions) is wrong. They said that it would get relisted in about a week. NOT.
Yes, I am listed. Never lost the list. Except now instead of being the the top three. I am way below that!
Funny in a stupid way. Position tech emailed me back and said, essentially, -- see you're in the top postion when we did the search.
However, they used quotes around the keyword! Duh! How many people in real life do that. I was previously listed in the top three without the quotes!
Thanks for your input,
Ed |

The quotes question is an interesting one, I reckon...
Although not many searchers use quotes, I think using quotes to check "optimisation expertise" is the best approach. After all, you are trying to measure how easily your best prospect would find you. If he knew how, your best prospect would in fact use quotes wouldn't he? At the end of the day, that phrase in quotes is what you optimised the page for.
That's the way I look at it, anyway, put I understand your frustations.
All the best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Troops,
I checked my stats today and have noticed some of the listing starting to come back... about 20%.
*** On a side note ***
There is a lot of good info in some of the old threads. Before we start posting lots of "new" threads I propose we try to post on some of the old ones.
I hate to see some of the old info lost, and then we go back over it again.
I plan on posting more links to past threads...
Just my thoughts.... _________________ Gary

I agree Gary.
I shall try to be more diligent to search old posts before I start a new one!
Sometimes, I just want a direct response and boosts my ego to see that I started a thread (as if I had something cool to say)

My thoughts exactly...
It gets more than a bit frustrating answering the same questions time and time again. Linking to past threads is a good idea... if you can remember where they are, that is. I don't have any secret searching shortcuts that aren't available to any other posters.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Ok,
I just check my listings and MSN has picked me up again! This ocurred on the 20th!
So, I was dropped in the beginning of October and now I'm back!
Check yours and see.
Yeah. In fact, here's what happened. I have had virtually no sales since I was dropped.
Then on the 20th I had a sale, then another one on the 21 and then THREE sales on the 22nd and another on the 23rd!
I checked this out and everything is corresponding to getting my top spots again!
Yahoo!

SgtAW,
I checked mine and I've got some more listing too.
That was MSN or was it Yahoo!
