Post subject: Need advice on exchanging links.

I have someone who wants to exchange links. He has a nice site, but a PR of 0. I have heard that exchanging links with a site that has PR of 0 is not wise to do. Is this true?
I have a PR of 4 and wouldn't mind helping him out, but I don't want it to cost me.
What do you think?

Hi Ed,
What is the PR of the page on your site where you'll link to him? If you look at that, maybe it looks more like a fair trade?
If you like the site, and the person, I'd go for it. Building relationships and investing in the future is usually a good plan. Two years from now this person may have a PR of 6, and some idea or other that really helps you out. _________________ Free Forum And Ezine Hosting

If no one ever gave PR 0 sites links, they would never get better...
If he links to you with a nice anchor text then it should help you anyway.
Also, PR is not the be-all and end-all of linking. If he's getting traffic then that could help you out. Also, when his site gets bigger, maybe he'll remember how you helped him get started and give you something more.
I say go for it (if it's a quality site).

Personally, I will generally link to a site that has a PR of 0, on some conditions. If the site is a professional-looking site and offers useful content, and they are actively looking for link partners, there's a pretty good chance that it will get a decent ranking in the next PR update. If the site is not well organized and the content is basically just filler to please the search engines, I'll usually avoid it. _________________ VREFlipping.com - Learn how to get the most for your site when you sell it, even if it's only making a few cents a day. |

Ed,
Go ahead and exchange links with the guy. Sounds like you like his site and it's of decent quality. When I did link campaigns for my new sites many would not exchange with me but the few that did were rewarded later with a PR4 or PR5 reciprocating link. Once I got there (and it didn't take me long and without many links back), I stopped doing link exchanges actively. So, the ones that were kind enough to exchange links with me when my site was a PR0 got rewarded later on. If you wait until it becomes a PR4 or higher, there's not a whole lot of incentive to exchange with you at that point. Also, I think an anchor-rich link back is worthy regardless of the PR (so long as the site isn't banned).
Cheers. _________________ Search With Blingo Google and Win Prizes
