You know as well as I do how much fun all that stuff is, so why oh why do you let SBI! take all the fun away?
Doesn't make sense to me.

You're not the only webmaster who does things by hand either - have you tried using grep to pick out spider visits in your W3C log files yet?
I love the jargon. Thanks.
I do still trawl my own logs by hand to pass away a rainy afternoon, if you must know.

You and Debs are both right about JavaScript too - it does have a place.
When it comes to web design, I think it's a matter of "useful purpose" good, "special effect" bad. Javascript is no exception.
I hate flash intros, too. So would everybody else if they had my dial up speed. When I'm in a really bad mood, I even disable graphics altogether. Who needs (A)DSL then?

Fun for you maybe, not for me. I enjoy trawling the site concept, and writing content, doing research. I don't like dealing with cgi php the quirks of html or css ... but I do like getting the concept and vision ready to go ... I do my own html/css for my SBI sites (now I am actually purchasing templates and converting them from tables to css, and editing graphics ... so much more fun and faster lol ... so what are they taking away?

You've been reading that user guide again, haven't you. SBI! was made for people like you!

It's like asking the Thought Police if you are allowed to think out of the box!
(Apologies to George O.)
All the best,

My thinking outside the box happens in content and perspective not in knowing how to do all the things I do know how to do.
Everyone has their personal preferences of what they like to do ... if I had to do scripts, php, design others websites etc I would hate it. I know this, because I did it for 6 months and hated every minute. It was no better than if I worked a fulltime job for someone else. But that's me Now I love what I do, and the way I do it. Which makes me loads happier, and my family too. I have been doing html etc for 6 years, been there done that, and no thank you. lol
To quote Dr. Phil ... "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy." LOL
On the other hand, there are those that absolutely love the behind the scenes stuff and I say more power to ya and hats off, because it takes a special talent to do it and love it. Just as it takes a special talent to love creating graphics, or be an Astronaut, or a teacher, whatever you decide you love to do.
Remember, I said "love" not just doing and therein lies the secret

Hear, hear, Debs!
That's what made me sit up and take notice when I stumbled across affiliate marketing. I froze my existing marketing efforts, took a long hard look at my business and thought to myself, wow, now here's a chance to REALLY work for myself.
I've never hated using the tools though. For me, that bit was fun. It was the clients who were sometimes the pain in the a**!
Anyway, thanks for replying to my original question at the start of this meandering thread!

LMAO, Charlie I read it through once, after I tried to do things my way and flubbed it. And I am not sorry I read it, it actually works
