Post subject: Best most current seo book

Which of the following lower cost SEO related courses is the best, most current course? Current meaning that it considers google's excessive same back link text penalty and recent changes as to what is considered good keyword density. Would prefer something updated at least monthly.
I'm considering:
Rankings Revealed by Sean Burns
Unfair advantage in the SE's by Planet Ocean
Aaron Wall's SEO Book
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks rlray. I've been doing a little research and all three do seem to be well regarded. Wall's seems to be the most heavily updated with planet ocean in second. A little negative I found about Wall's technique:
http://www.google-watch.org/gaming.html
But I guess a maybe a lot of people are doing that.
I'm leaning towards Sean burns manual because I like what he said about keyword density in the older thread and that it should be low. Much stuff I was reading at that time said it should be higher so that suggests to me that he may have solid information. Does he recommend inbound text links with varied text?
I also have a couple of seo related questions. As far as the title metatag and the H1 tag goes, is there a penalty if you make them both exactly the same? Is this addressed in Burns manual or the other manuals?
Should the title of your site and the contents of your h1 tag be written diffently?
My next question is, in the same way that a high percentage of same text inbound links may be punished, can the same problem occur with internal links? How about with linking to the home page with the main keyword of the site in the text of the link on other pages of the site? Can that be a bad thing?
Thanks for any further recommendations and suggestions. |

I didn't see anything in that thread which may indicate Aaron Wall employs "black hat" seo. Just because Mr. Brandt's name is being anchor-linked in order to peripherally sell someone else's books doesn't mean, IMO, that the technique is spam because Mr. Brandt objects to the tactic. This is a classic situation where one puts up a billboard on his property next to a K-Mart which reads "Going to K-Mart? Did you know Wal-Mart has lower prices at the store two blocks away?" Having said that, I can certainly sympathize with Mr. Brandt.
At the end of the day, I would choose to buy a book based on the cutting edge techniques that are taught, not whether you consider them to be ethical. I would try to understand the technique first, then make my value judgment as to whether I would employ it.
Cheers.

It really depends. If ALL of your IBL use the EXACT same anchor text, it may draw some red flags on Google's part.
But I think as long as you keep it diversified to some extent, you'll be alright. I think Sean talked about this before; he made the connection of thinking about big brands. Naturally, think of Google itself. I'd say most of the links into Google's site use the phrase "Google" as the anchor text, probably by itself a lot.
But last I checked, Google still shows up in the SERP for "google". _________________ Robert

The concept is the same. The point I was making is, it would be extremely difficult for Google to determine what words are brandnames or generic keywords. _________________ Robert

Planet Ocean is my no.1 without a doubt (though I have no first hand experience of Aaron Wall's stuff).
That said, Sean B is a very different approach that works well for content sites. His writing style is very much "plain English" and might well appeal to any SBIers wanting to look further at Google PageRank (in laymen's terms).
That's the trouble with SEO...
Many people love to make an industry out of complication. Sean B is not one of these people.
Just my opinion,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

This seems to be a popular topic, I had just asked a similar question about a week ago. It appears that Sean and Allans books are not only popular but quite good. I like Seans bonus of free email support and his forum. Has anyone had some experiences with that they can share.
Also, has anyone bought both books and what seems to be the differences.
Thanks,

Just an update.
I decided finally to get Aarons course. Mainly because it is updated very frequently and he does seem to know his stuff. Very generous guy too - all the proceeds are being donated to the tsunami relief. He is also very accessible. He answered my emails literally within 90 seconds. Seems very down to earth and he has some of the best reviews of any seo manual. Seems there is some focus on proper marketing/copywriting technique as well which I guess is important to make the conversion once you get the rank/visitors.
Anyways, I'll see how it goes and let yall know if I liked it.
I still may get the other courses but this is what I will start with.
Thanks everyone for helping me decide. |
