Recently I want to see how well or poorly I did as far as optimizing some of my keywords. Let say for instance the keywords that I am using are "red car". If I type in red car in google I am no where to found, but if I type in red-car with the dash between it my page shows up. It probably a ignorant question but I am curious that all.  |

Sorry if I didn't correctly ask the question. My keyword in this example is red car, If type in the words red car into the google search bar no where is my document found well at least not the first 5 pages  . But if I do another query using same keywords red car but this time with a dash between the two words, like this red-car I able to find my document usually within the first couple of pages in that search. |

Hey Ron,
well, since your site page is most likely named "red-car.html", there are far fewer pages named "red-car.html", when compared to websites that use the words "red" and "car" on their page.
I always show up near the top if I put a dash in between my keywords, as long as my page actually has that exact keyword saved as the page name.
Just ignore the results with the dash in between...the real result is how people will type it. Since folks will type "red car" far more than they will type "red-car"... the only one that really matters is how you do for "red car"

I agree with Greg - you must use search behaviour as the main influence in how to get people to your site. High rankings on low traffic searches are next to useless.
Generally people are very lazy and simplistic when it comes to searches, but there are still enough of the "significantly imaginative" to give you something to work with...
How many people can honestly say they regularly use + - AND and NOT in combination with quotes in Google searches?
