|
|
Hello,
A question for those of you experiences with SBI, adsense, and Inktomis pay for inclusion...
Here's what happened.
1. I paid position tech to list one of my pages. It happened within 72 hours. This was back in April. Since it was listed, I have ALWAYS been listed within the top 5 at MSN.com and have been steadily getting more and more hits. They recheck your URL or something every 72 hours.
2. I was accepted for Adsense at the end of september and had it up on Monday September 29. There was a spike in Adsense click throughs! Yeah.
4. Two days latter (Oct 1), The impressions and dropped severely and no click throughs (obvious because of low impression number). I noticed my traffic dropped too...
5. Yesterday (Oct 3) the impresseions are even worse and so is traffic.
6. I go to msn.com and search on my keyword phrase. Here's the kicker. I am no longer even in the top 50! Only a few days ago I was still #2!!
So....
a. it seems to me that MSN (or positiontech, inktomi, someone) is penalizing my ranking becase of Adsense.
What do you guys think?
Please give me your comments and insights please....
In the mean time, here is what I am doing....
1. I removed the adsense from my keyword page. When positiontech does it's thing, I will see if traffic picks up again.
2. As a control, I left another high rank page the goes through positiontech untouched with adsense on it. This page too has suffered greatly. From being #2 to no where to be seen!
I'll keep you posted.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Ed, I would be very interested in the results of your testing. One thing that may infer how it will come out ... Inktomi is now owned by Yahoo ... Yahoo is building a search engine to go up against Google. Oh ... and Yahoo owns Overture as well, and Overture has just launched its own contextual ad model!
MSN currently uses Inktomi results, but it is also building its own search engine to go up against Google. Industry experts predict MSN will be next into the contextual ad market.
Interesting? LOL

SgtAw,
How many pages are we talking about? First, you're looking at the beginning of the month. You never know when the cards are being shuffled.
What's your status in the other engines?
Did they drop also?
Are you looking at the SBI search engine ranking page? The reporting is not always accurate.
I'll admit I was a little "A*al" when first started using SBI looking at all the stats, rankings, etc. and trying to micro manage the info. Then I pushed myself away for the computer screen and said... forget it. If my pages pass the analyze it test... write more content. Keep building.
So far here are my results in a nutshell. I've been able to solve all my traffic problems by producing more targeted content.
Not being critical... it's just what has worked for me, I hope it helps,
Gary

Hi Gary. No problem with the input. It is good.
All my keywords are that are listed with inktomi (I paid for the listings) have dropped significantly in a matter of days (coinciding with the time that they are respidered.
You may be completely correct, but the coincidence is too much for me thus the test.
I shall report on my results in a few days when I get respidered again.
Thanks,
Ed |

Something is definately up with Positiontech. I have two webpages listed through them and they were both top five. Since the start of October they have dropped out of sight.
I don't think that having adsense on the pages has anything to do with it. I've had Adsense on those pages for months and they still ranked well.
Also, the pages that previously ranked higher than mine are still there and they have adsense on at the moment.
So it may be a problem with Positiontech. I hope that it rights itself soon. No fun to lose previously lucrative traffic.

Hi Bruce,
I don't think it is positiontech. I think it is inktomi. I also have paid another company to do the same think. They also are a front end to inktomi. I use them now because they have an affiliate program so you can get 20% (I think) off your purchase. Here is the link.

Some thing strange is definitely happening. All my listings have dropped to almost oblivion using through inktomi.
Thanks for the input,

I am not using Adsense and I also was listed in the top 10 in MSN and listed in inktomi. Now since the first of Oct. they are nowhere to be found in MSN.

Bob, thanks for the input!
Wow! so this must be an MSN / Inktomi thing? I wonder if anyone else has notice this.
I'm going to make a new post and see.
Try this. Do a search at MSN.com and put quote around your keywords. Do you show up at all?
Thanks,

I had 2nd rank for a term and now it has dropped to oblivion. I think the first site also dropped in rankings. I think either inktomi has changed algo or there is something wrong, though i think it is the former. But i followed all the seo and no tricks. So they must have changed something drastically. I will soon be analyzing the top sites. i will let you guys know about it.

I'm certainly no search engine "guru", but I do try to keep informed, and this is a new one on me...

MSN competes with Yahoo.
Yahoo bought Inktomi.
MSN dropped Inktomi rankings.
Isn't it obvious? |

As of now MSN uses inktomi. I think msnbot(prototype) has been in the wild. But it is not functional yet. There is a change in inktomi index which is reflected by MSN. Hope that clears things up.
