I just checked around 10 of James' 1st-in ... sites. I have the feeling that almost none of the site are in Google any more. And if so, just a few pages.
Dog & cat training, food, health, care, collars, toys, supplies - Get dog and cat supplies for pets including grooming and medical care plus discount
and wholesale items found online instead of a mail order catalog or pet supply ...
www.iinfocenter.com/cgi-bin/search/tseek. cgi?id=49708&ct=Home_L2K_Garden-Pets-Pet_Supplies - 15k
which is not James' site but the link leads to his site.
I have noticed the same thing fab, they have completely lost all page rank. Maybe Allen can shed some light on this maybe these are sites he got penalized for cross linking

I don't think this is a new issue - I questioned it a few weeks back. But it appears to have gotten worse. James has said that this 'penalty' has affected only a few of his sites. But even two of his newest sites, 1st-in-dsl and -hosting, are not showing in Google. From what I can tell, it's more than "a few". Hhhmmmmm
It could be something weird in Google, but I have a feeling James is being penalized for his linking methods. His approach is similar to that of Leslie Rhodes, and I've heard that Rhodes had his sight dropped as well(but not sure there).
At this point, I doubt anyone, including James knows exactly what is happening. I'm sure he'll stop the speculation as soon as he figures it out. In the meantime, I'm going back to very basic SEO, and putting James on hold until it's all sorted out. I've even suggested that affiliates hold off on promoting his book ( in fairness to newbies), but given the commissions involved, that was not a popular idea... lol
James's system works and continues to work.
He made a mistake and I'm sure he is fixing it.
Even if worst case, God forbid he loses pr
in all his sites, he can just rebuild bigger
and better.
Also, remember Yahoo is just as good at driving
traffic to sites as Google, if not easier because you don't
have to worry about linking. My 1st site has a pr of "2"
and I'm getting 600+ visitors a day. So James is still
getting traffic from ALL the other SE's.

Well, having 90 sites likes James is a great advantage. If you drop out from Google with a few sites it won't kill you. But honestly who has such an amount of sites?
Yes, his system works in general. But he places so much importance on linking and PR, that any 'penalty' from Google is a serious challenge to him and his methods, and is worth watching (especially at $170 for his manual !! ).
If he did make a mistake, he hasn't told us what it is - maybe he doesnt know. But it may not even be a 'mistake' or penalty at all. I've seen other discussions that point to something wrong within Google itself (for example PR not being updated in a long time). It's too early to judge either way.
FAb - As for PR and traffic, I've seen PR 0 sites getting tons of traffic, and sites with PR 5 and 6 getting very little. PR is only one factor. So for me, it's more important to watch his Alexa traffic ratings than his PR.

And his Alexa rankings dropped at least 30% per site. On the other hand the page views per user have increased what might be the effect of adding links on the homepages of the sites.
Just because James has dropped from a few
sites does not mean you are going to.
It does not take alot of sites to make
good money.
Anyone in one year can make 10 sites,
$500 a month each, that's $5000 a month
minimum, you could make more.
James talks about google and linking
alot in the manual, that was before yahoo
offered free SE listings. But still, it is only
a part of the system.
I'm not glad James made this mistake,
but at least we can learn from it and avoid
it. He is nice enough to tell us about it,
if you bought the manual and subscribe
to the buzz.
Have you guys bought the manual, do you
listen to the buzz, this issue has been solved
and explained already.
Its going to be 2005 real soon.
How many niches have you researched.
How many websites are you going
to make in 2005.
How much content
are you going to publish in 2005.
How much more money are you
going to make.
Write the answers down and post them in
BIG print on the wall behind your computer.
Focus on that!
No offense don't waste your time following
James around, his system works, just do
it, keep doing it.
You will find that James has new sites that do not fit the domain name nor the link tracking (nor fingerprinting) that he once did. His new sites are harder to find.
However, they are out there and doing well.
Listen, James works on a clean strategy method. Low on tricks and big on steady content now days. His content is better (not that it matters, it does not) and his process is middle of the road.
In other words, it is not unique to him.
what is unique is his steady, honest sharing. Speed and I have talked about this and though he shared much more than we would with the public. He has stopped the naming of his domains (good move as it does nothing to improve on his teaching) but keeps sharing the basic concepts and his research that makes his company a firm player.
What is odd about this is that since it is not all hyped people tend not to feel the "juice" that you get from people like Reese. I tend to favor the non-sweet like quantities as that is always a purer test of quality of wines
I still use the same strategy in basic form that James does. I still get the same results. In fact, Google is making it better and better in that the writing can flow better for the reader.

James' 1st-in sites indeed don't show up in Google at the moment. I checked a random 45 of his sites today. 28 were already banned by Google back in August and never came back with Google. Though some, like the old babysite did recover (after quite a dip) with the other SE's.
The remaining 17 sites were doing fine last time I checked (a few weeks ago) but are dramatically thrown off Google as well now. Only his '1st-in-speakers' site still functions with it's meager PR2. James' team must also suspect it's not a google glitch, cause all outbound links are 'pending' now, even on the 'speakers' site. In August James' had the same reaction: disconnecting the outbound links. His explanations in the Buzz on the other hand were about inbound links that got caught in an algoritm as a reason why he got penalized. But it's common knowledge that bad inbound links get devalued, your site will never get penalized for it. Otherwise your competition could damage your site and you could damage your competition. But still it's a mystery. I haven't been able to find links to bad neighbourhoods in his sites, but maybe there were a few months ago and he took them out too late? Or could it be some sort of SE game his students didn't know about? I hope James will be forthcoming to his students.. _________________ Gnoes
Gnoes - Good points - especially about all his links now showing "pending". And you are right that bad inbound links would be irrelevant.
Jeremy stated that "the issues has been solved and explained", but I've seen nothing in print. And the Martel affilates and fans have been strangely quiet about it. I don't think the problem as been resolved yet, but if someone has 'the answer', please pass it on. I dont subscribe to Buzz, and don't think that would be an adequate place for an explanation anyway.
I certainly hope it's not as bad as it seems. I thought he had just lost PR... but banned ?? Ouch !
