SBI says many times that we should not try to transfer a domain name to our SBI package.

On the other hand, they recommend that you should consider a series of related sites, tied together by a overall domain. I like this idea, but it would seem best to secure the related names now so they are not "stolen".

Well, I do not want to sink $299 x 3 into the additional 3 related names I have brainstormed, and last I heard, SBI cannot park domains for you.

SO ... do I buy the other names now and park them elsewhere and hope the transfer goes well later if I move ahead? Or ....

thanks for comments

Richard

Richard, what i would do is contact SBI support (via the online form NOT via email) ... and ask if they have had any problems with transferring domains from GoDaddy (they are cheap there), or if there is another registrar service they recommend as easy to work with when the time comes you decide to purchase more SBI units.

Another option is to ask them if you could purchase the domains through SBI now ... just have them held, then when you purchase the full SBI package, assign them as needed. They may or may not credit you for the domain purchases as the domains will then fall under a different renewal pattern than the SBI package does. Not sure if this is even workable ... but hey ... it's always worth asking!

When you contact them ... include what you said in your post ... then they will know where you are coming from and may look forward to considering this since it confirms your continued interest in more SBI sites.

Hope this helps,
Debs

Hello Richard.

The way I see it, Sitesell only warn about the difficulties in transferring a name because you are supposed to get one free with SBI!

There's an important difference between registering a name with a web host (SBI!) and just changing the DNS of a domain registered elsewhere so that the record points to the name servers of the web host.

OK you'll have to pay the $10 (or whatever) per year for each domain, but if you did have trouble with a transfer, I suggest this sum might be a price worth paying to avoid the hassle.

Just make sure you can make changes to your DNS wherever you register the domain. GoDaddy is one of the good ones, from my experience, too.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.
