Some advice I would like to give newbies building sites...
Are you spamming the search engines without realising??
If you have designed your site where you have the same text colour and backgound colour, this is seen as a spamming technique by most search engines and your site could get penalised which would effect your rankings. Now I'm not just referring to the hidden text spamming technique which your probably familiar with.
Let's say for example you have your body background color set to black. Now if you have a white table within the body text and have the text color set to black... this is spamming. The search engines see it as black text on the black background, regardless of the table background being white.
Dont put all this hard work into your site to unknowingly spam the SEs. |

I thought similiar things before, but haven't noticed any ill effects yet.
To be completely honest, I figure Google is smart enough to realize when the text is in a table of a different color. If I can look at the HTML code and realize it, a Google algorithm certainly could.
Do you have any data backing up this claim? _________________ Robert

Just advice Ive had from reputable sources.
Ive never employed the technique so couldnt say. Better being safe then sorry, right?
Really, it aint that big of a problem anyway. If your really wanting your body background color to be very dark say, just set it to a very dark grey - which looks black anyhow. That way the color code is different so it wouldnt trip any filters. |

I'm not saying you didn't glean it from someone else, I believe that other people are saying that.

Absolutely right. I'd never want to throw away my work on something so trivial.
The only reason I said something is these forums are great rumor mills, and some people read something at take it as FACT. That's all. _________________ Robert

I completely understand. I take everything I hear on forums with a grain of salt and apply it to my situation.

Thanks for bringing this up! I was going to ask about this the other day! I have a dark blue background (sides only) and have the same font color in parts of my page! Hmmm....

No problems meleemel
If you have a dark blue background on the sides only - that would mean your body background color is set to dark blue. So I would definately make sure you dont use the same color for body text. You can use a different variation of the color if your really wanting to keep with that color theme. |

I agree completely. There are some instances in which
people purposely also use their text very similar to the
bg color such as black and a very dark grey OR light
blue with a lighter faded blue. _________________ Closed Door Interviews: How 10 ordinary people
