Hi all,

All my pages have been indexed now.
Now I have 200+ visitors a day.

I got more links before to have the spiders
dig deeper into my site.

My home page was a pr 2 now it is a Zero
and my product pages are a pr 2.

I now I did not over use my home pages
keyword for linking.

Why is the pr uneven?

Also, since my site is indexed, should I take
away the lower pr sites according to James's
rules will this help me rank higher in google.

Most of my traffic is coming from Yahoo
which is a good thing, but I would also like more traffic
from google.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Forgot to mention.

Because my pages were having trouble
getting indexed. I linked to related
sites with pr's of 0, 2, 3, 4.

So should I now take off the lower
pr sites?

Thanks,

Jeremy

I don't worry about PR so long as the sites are good quality and not spammy. As far as your home page showing PR 0 ... are you checking it via domain.com or www.domain.com?

you should always use the same domain reference for all links into your site, one or the other, don't mix them as that can dilute your PR, and always check your PR with the same

either

domain.com or
www.domain.com

Having internal pages with a higher PageRank than the main page sounds very unusual to me.

I've noticed that occasionally a site can appear to have a PageRank of zero but if you click on Refresh or leave the site and revisit it, the PageRank will appear. You could try that.

Yes it is strange but true.

http://www.snowboard-guide.com

I'll just keep adding content and get
more links.

I haven't checked, but I wonder if you're getting PageRank on internal pages because some of your link partners link to those internal pages?

Perhaps it would help if you're more consistent with your links.

For example, look at the way you link to your Home page. At the bottom of this page...

http://www.snowboard-guide.com/ride-snowboards.html

...your Navigation bar links to
http://www.snowboard-guide.com/index.html
but at the bottom of the ride-snowboards page
you link to http://www.snowboard-guide.com/

It would be better if you and anyone who links to your site uses the exactly the same URL. (I'm not sure if you have the option of changing that "index.html" link in the nav bar in SiteSell.)

Something else you might consider... At the bottom of each page, instead of linking to "Home", you could link to "Snowboard Guide HOME".

Doing so wouldn't help your PageRank but it would place your most important keyword in the anchor text, telling Google what your page is about, and perhaps improving your rankings.

Hi Allan,

I always thought .com and .com/index.html
were interchangeable.

Should I always link to the .com/index.html
page wether it is SBI or frontpage?

My 2nd site I am using frontpage and
my inbound links go to .com.

I want to be clear about this for the future.

For my snowboard site I should go in
and add the index.html to the footer
Snowboard Guide Home link.

Wow, it never occurred to me to
add the index.html.

Every site has an index.html or htm page.

Thank you Allan,

Jeremy

Jeremy,

With your inbound links you should stick to the one type of link. You are effectively passing PR to one domain or the other. Even though you see them both being the same page, the search engines dont.

For example, you could have links look like:

www.domain.com OR domain.com OR domain.com/index.htm etc

All these domains are seen differently by Google and your diluting PR if you interchange between them.

One way to verify this is by actually checking the toolbar PR of all the domain variations - there most likely all different. www.domain.com usually has the highest PR as thats the most popular linking method.

I always think its a good idea just linking to your primary domain like this: www.domain.com I was fortunate to do so this way as recently I just changed the file extension of my site to .shtml so things would have become messy if I was linking to specific index pages.

Just on a side note... it just got me thinking when I used the previous example in my post, can you imagine how much the URL domain.com would be worth? Think about how much free link popularity it gets!!

Hi Allan,

When I hit the home nav bar,
in the browser it shows index.html.

Other sites don't have this.
I'll see if SBI support can change this.

Also some of my link partners
link to product pages, just part
of the Martell system.

I'll add the Snowboard Guide Home
link without the index.html, then only
the home nav bar has the index.html,
maybe support can change it.

That's because your linking to the index html page. Change the link like I have stated above.

Obviously there's nothing you can do about internal page linking. It's good you have links pointing to your internal pages.

Dcristo,

I just looked at the site I made
with frontpage. I bought my template,
the footer home link and the header
home link both link to index.htm

I'll have to change the link on those
also.

For those that buy their templates,
check those home links everyone,
to avoid my situation.

With a bought template, you have
to have the index, because the site
is not online.

So I'll just have to change the home link
to a .com.

I have seen sites with internal linking
using index.html and their backlinks
are linked to .com. They still have
a good page rank.

Maybe it is not so critical, though I will
still change it so my site is consistent.

That definitely used to be true. A recent article in Planet Ocean gave similar advice.

However, perhaps that info is now out of date? Google seems to be getting smarter these days.

I just checked the PageRank of
http://www.associateprograms.com/index.shtml
http://www.associateprograms.com/
http://associateprograms.com/

Google USED to assign different PageRanks for these. However, Google is now giving them all the same PageRank.

So, although I'd recommend making all links the same where possible, it looks as you don't need to worry too much about this.
