My name is Michelle. I'm a Mom/Wife/Hairstylist from Canada, and I recently started building an SBI! site. So it looks like I'll have to add another slash for Webmaster .
I'm thrilled with my journey so far and am reaching the point where I'll be ready to add affiliate links. This forum is a goldmine of information and I can see I'll be spending a bit of time here learning and also contributing what I can.

Thanks for the welcome and the kind words about my site. I checked out your site and ended up spending quite a bit of time there, reading and learning. I'm intrigued by the idea of blogging and found that article very informative. Can I ask about your blog? Is it just a page you update frequently, or do you use another service for it?
I've planned on adding an article submission form (and also visitor's photos) and I can see from your site that it'll be a good addition.

Can I ask about your blog? Is it just a page you update frequently, or do you use another service for it?
It's just a plain SBI page that I update a few times a week. On the downside, my readers don't contribute as many comments and blog entries as I'd hoped, because they have to send them to me to post for them. On the upside, I don't have to be concerned about anyone posting spammy or obscene stuff in my blog while I'm not looking.
A blog on your topic is an excellent "sticky" feature to keep readers returning often to see what's new - I think mine has turned out to be really successful in that regard.
At some point I'd like to turn it into a real blog. But despite the way it's set up, it's still always in the top 3 most visited pages of my site, and because of the new content I'm always adding to it, the blog page gets spidered often. I post links to all my new articles in the blog, and they're usually indexed in Google within a day or two.
A blog can bring you lots of SE traffic too - in content sites, a blog is an excellent place to post keyword-rich tips that aren't really big enough to warrant writing an entire article about them.

Yes, I've been very happy with the quantity and quality of articles I receive via my article submission form. I get about 2 or 3 articles a week, and in exchange my guest authors receive links to their sites on their article page, my blog page, my "newest articles" page, and my newsletter.
I think that giving guest authors something valuable in return (e.g., more than one link to their site) is very strong incentive for them to write up an article and email it to me.

Thank you! I'm still surprised at how successful a site can be when it's on such an obscure topic as marketing handcrafted jewelry. It really is true that you can build a profitable site based on one of your passions.
