Post subject: MOTIVATION
|
|
|
Hi to all of you guys!!!
My site is just around 15 days old and is already listed in google. Currently i m having around 10-15 visitors daily. And I m really fascinated with this world of affiliate marketing.
I guess one of the major tool to gain success in it is "MOTIVATION" especially for the newbies like me. Real inspiration is really necessary so that we can give our best to it.
So, its a request from me as well as from other newbies like me to webmasters who r already earning good money that... can u pls tell ur earnings from a specific site if u dont mind... so that we can all stay motivated in it and dont loose our mind.
I hope you all understand what point I am trying to make.
Thanks in advance,
Niz |

I think most people are a little shy about posting their earnings, etc. I noticed this thread hadn't been responded to since you posted.
Ok, here goes ... (does everyone hate to be first, like me??? lol)
First off, I am not a newbie ... have been doing the internet thing for many years, started about a year or so after Windows first came out.
Did the online retail gift store with SMC and lost my shirt, slacks and
almost my bra! Then I took a long hiatus from making money and stuck with sites I built for friends for fun. Just got back into building sites for profit with affiliate merchants in the Spring of 2002. I did all the wrong things until January of this year, now I just do them occasionally.
I had about 6 sites going, got frustrated and sold them all on eBay and started over with SBI. Had a couple false starts with SBI ... I didn't follow the Action Guide
The active site gets about 3,000 uniques a month (and climbing) and is fast approaching the $1,000 monthly earnings mark. Earnings come from a variety of affiliate programs including those offered by BeFree, CJ, Linkshare, Amazon, Adsense and a few small independents.
With one site near completion on SBI, I am researching more topics for 2 additional sites. My goal is to have a monthly income of at least $5,000 from my niche sites. I don't use any PPC advertising, or any paid advertising at all. Currently my only out-of-pocket expense on my site is the annual SBI fee. I don't count my internet connection because we have had that right along, and would continue having it without doing internet marketing.
The time factor involved in building a successful site can be large, but the results can make it very worthwhile.

niz85 I am newbie just like you and I finished building a site about 8 days ago put it up on some PPC's and is already made me $467 in profits.
My best day was about 4 days ago I had made about a $120 profit in one day. The site's making me about $30-$50 a day. And that $467 could have probably been higher if clickbank would have never created the mess they did.

Debs,
Your post sounds about like mine would if I wrote it... I waited until April to jump on SBI. Fortunately, I DID complete the Action Guide but not until after I read the Fast Start Guide... I tried to shorten the process... Bad move. Then I was reminded of the term - insanity - Doing the same thing you always have and expecting different results. My results are a little better since I have produced some eBooks prior to SBI... I'm in the $2400 range... and climbing.
I use to wonder if $2000 per month was possible... But slowly it has built and now I even suprise myself. Many people have be supportive along the way and have provided motivation. People Like Allan, Ken, others in forums and of course the School of Hard Knocks. Most of the people are unaware that they are motivating you.
I've sat on the sidelines of this forum for way to long and should have jumped in and participated... I never felt as if I had anything to contribute. We can all learn for each other.
I use to grow indoor plants for a living... a couple freezes and hurricanes later... I write about them. Once you back away an industry and look at others you'll see that they are basically, all the same - just change a few words. Business is business.
After spending many hours on the net and reading countless marketing pieces I've been determined to strengthen my weak spot - marketing. I needed to retrain my brain to think differently. Now I have a small exercise that I use everyday that has really pushed me to over come my marketing hurdles... I try to look for a marketing concept everyday that can be applied to the web. It may never be something I can physically use, it's more the concept of marketing.
For instance, next time you see someone one the side of the road with a little sign that says "Will work for Food", what are your thoughts. Most of us drive right on by. I know I have. Now I ask myself... "Why did the person pick that street corner"? Very simple... traffic. It's all simple math. This person knows that if 1,000 cars go by they'll make 5 dollars... 10,000 they'll pocket $50. The web is the same way... the more traffic the more possibility of sales... whatever you're selling. What would happen IF they improved their sign, or clothes... would the results be better or worse?
Here's an article I wrote about going with a friend of mine in a tugboat a couple of years ago. It's about a 5 minute read. Maybe it will help clarify what I'm trying to explain...
http://www.nurserysell.com/Tugboat.htm
Try this exercise and see if it helps, write it down. You'll be suprised at the ideas you'll come up with. Think out of the box. Sometimes ideas or concepts are right in front of your face... but you can't see them. I'll close with two different books that I recommend reading. Neither one of them has to do with the web... but then again they do.

I hope some of this helps,

If you have decent traffic to your site, MyFree.com has developed a program that will help monetize these users. We have seen ecpms -between $40 and $125.

Boy, can I relate to what your problem is!
Keeping motivation is key. I do, however, have an interesting twist on the whole discussion. I have found that most people lose motivation because they do not have a proven plan for success.
Here is a great *free* resource that gives a simple, 30 day plan to promote any website or program. I got real motivates using it, because I could put one foot in front of the other each day.
Download it for free here:
30 Days to Success

Good luck!

Thanks guyz for all the motivations!!!
Keep it coming. All newbies enjoy reading it.
Just to tell you people, it has been around 20 days since my website started. I have sended around 100 people to my merchants' site but still no sales but i have started earning a few bucks from adsense
And one thing more... i m always wondering if i m doing anything wrong? Do anyone of you people also feel like this?
Your motivations, thoughts are always appreciated.
Best Wishes,
Niz |

OM Goodness Yes! But if you don't try it, you won't know if it works
BTW 100 referrals to your merchants is too low to worry about making sales. Just keep an eye on it, and let us know how you are doing when you get to 1,000.
Keep in mind --- # of unique visitors --- # of referrals --- # of sales --- $ commissions on a regular basis (daily/weekly/monthly) and you may start to see a pattern emerge. This will help you to determine if you are converting visitors to referrals ... and if your merchant is converting referrals to sales
Hope this helps,

Niz, congratulations on your very first site. What a milestone. I remember earning my very first $1 -- and my first website. It was very exciting.
And that was three and a half years ago.
Since then, affiliate marketing has literally change the financial lives of my family and many others.
I remember many months where I could barely scrape enough money together to pay the rent -- and some months I couldn't even do that.
It was very embarrassing (especially with four kids).
It was during those tough times ... when a friend of mine walked through the door and showed me this simple little website that he had built where he was promoting free Internet access for a few companies who were paying him $1-$4 for each new subscriber he referred.
And he was making thousands.
I knew then ... that I needed to learn how to do this. Over the next few weeks he taught me the basics ... and the rest is history.
Now, three and a half years later I have 70+ websites spanning a large number of industries. And, I am totally financially free -- to put it mildly.
Since last October alone, I have taken my wife and kids on an incredible three week vacation to California (Oregon coast, San Fransisco, Disneyland, Santa Barbara to attended Commission Junction University and then onto Las Vegas), took my wife to Hawaii for 10-days in December (without the kids for the first time in 15 years), spent a week in Cuba with my son Justin, went to Las Vegas in January and March (everybody needs a break), sent my parents on an Alaskan Cruise (something I had always wanted to do), sent my son Justin off to Florida to attend Student Leadership University in Florida for a youth leadership conference (amazing) then onto Scotland for two weeks for another youth event (amazing again) and I again attended Commission Junction University in Santa Barbara with 10 students of mine from Vancouver and went to Las Vegas again.
I have found that affiliate marketing offers an amazing opportunity to those who don't mind working hard and who can stay focused.
And it can pay off in huge rewards.
As for personal motivation, I post my goals on my Internet Start Page so I can see them every day. I listen to great audio courses from guys that I respect such as Art Williams -- http:www.artwilliams.com -- a self made Billionaire who teaches what it takes to win.
I attend industry related events such as Commission Junction University -- http://www.cj.com/corporate/cju.jsp -- where I get to meet other like minded individuals and I work to stay focused.
And on the days where things are not going so well -- I remember a little saying -- "Most people can stay excited for a few days -- some for a few weeks - other for a few months -- but a winner will stay excited for how ever long it takes to win".
It ends with -- "90+ winning is always being excited -- especially when you don't feel like it".
I also take a "breakcation" every six weeks. I find that we all need it.
We need to stay plugged into other like minded individuals -- like Allan Gardyne and the people who make up this wonderful forum.
If I may, here's a link to my Home Movie that pretty much sums it up what affiliate marketing has done for my family (be sure to turn your speakers on):

Also, here's a link to my Affiliate Buzz -- It's brand new audio newsletter for affiliate marketers that is proving to be a dynamite way to stay motivated and plugged to other like minded individuals:

That's a nice idea, James.
On the subject of goals - something that held me back for a long time - it's important to make sure the goals are your own, not somebody else's. This is easier said than done, when we are constantly bombarded by society's definition of what it means to be successful.
For example, a while ago, I realised that my goal wasn't actually fabulous wealth, but total independence - work, lifestyle, self-expression - the ability to live life my own way. Yes, I need money, but by aiming at it directly, I was sabotaging my own behaviour at a subconscious level.
Perhaps I should add ranting psychobabble from the comfort of my armchair, to that list!
What I'm saying is, some people are more driven than others. Do you think of what you want to do and then find a way to pay for it, or do you go for the money and then think of ways to spend it?
I suspect that "wrongly" answering that question may mean the difference between "success" and "failure" for many people.
Just a thought,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Charlie, If I hadn't seen your name I would have thought I wrote that ... that's exactly what I did and it turned me completely around. Now I am expressing myself while trying to help others avoid the mistakes I made, and it's actually making me money! Go figure!

Charlie,
Ditto on your post. Working for myself for over 20 years I finally realized I had bought myself a JOB. What I thought I was working for was financial freedom... like you... what I found I really wanted as you have said so well " - work, lifestyle, self-expression - the ability to live life my own way". I"m not there yet but getting close (hopefully within 6 months) I plan on having a nice little party and - FIRE MY CLIENTS - work completely on my schedule and time table. I've been blessed to be a self starter... and I'm working my plan.
Years ago I read a quote that I've never forgot - "To get ahead you need to work a half a day". That's not 4 hours a day as most employees would suggest... it's 12 hours. Combine that with goals and some regular motivation and you have a winning combination in my book.
Try the suggestion by James on taking a "breakcation" every 6 to 8 weeks... I'm getting ready to take my 3rd "breakcation" and I come back so charged with lots of ideas. I never thought a little time off could be productive.
Also I recommend getting some motivation CD's, drop them in your computer while your working... and help change your mindset.
Making a living online is possible... sometimes we need to just clear our mind and get out of our own way.
To all of the ones that participate on this board... a big thank you from me. Being able to check in, share ideas, disagree and help each other is very motivating.
Gary

Hello again.

Oh my goodness! We must stop agreeing like this!
| Gary wrote: | | Years ago I read a quote that I've never forgot - "To get ahead you need to work a half a day". That's not 4 hours a day as most employees would suggest... it's 12 hours. Combine that with goals and some regular motivation and you have a winning combination in my book. |
This is where I think it's vital to create a job where time flies rather than you have to watch the clock.
"Find (or in this case create) a job you love, and you'll never have to work again."
Since I "retired", I "work" from 9am to midnight 6 days a week (just stopping for food and to bounce a ball, when creativity runs temporarily dry) - I pop into work a couple of times on the seventh day, too. But I'm certainly no workaholic. I do what I want to do.
Secondly, when it comes to motivation, I'd be wary of listening to close family and friends. From my experience, they tend to hold you back (in a genuine, but misguided attempt to protect you from disappointment) by discouraging many of your boldest plans.
I hope your family are similar, and mine aren't just a bunch of nutters!
Seriously, though, I've heard others say the same, so I think it's a fairly common "problem"... The trouble is, if you make big changes, you may not fit in anymore. Inter-personal relationships are funny things. People choose to associate with others for a variety of reasons that justify their image of themselves. But enough ranting...

I'll second that.
All the best,

Nice to see people sharing their life experiences Its really motivating.
Keep it up!
I guess all this is not so easy as I initially thought in the starting. I have to really give my best into it to succeed. Lets hope for the best.
