No Charlie, your family is not the only ones. I have been playing with affiliate marketing for about a year now... and I dabbled in many other things prior. My family (outside of my wife, who is very supportive) is very skeptical, and trys to "protect" me from disappointment...
And I say 'playing with affiliate marketing' since I have not serious sat down to it. I am starting to a little more now. I have made about $800 total this year. Not much at all...
As to the motivation... that is key. If everyone was 100% motivated, then everyone would be millionaires by now... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

No Charlie, your family is not the only ones. |
Thanks for the reassurance, Eric.
Much better late than never.
Cheers,

Hey ... thanks for the reply.
About the product page / general page? Actually I have both. I don't have any stats on this though, but I think my product pages gets the sales. But the general info page (sometimes I write how-tos, guides) gets me free links.
Oh ... actually, this is my first PPC trial getting traffic to my own website. I did tried Adsense with direct linking to the merchant once but I didn't have the money to sustain the trial-error stage. The one that get me the 3 sales is 7Search. _________________ Iszuddin Ismail aka Kidino

Think of it as a traffic funnel...
Use any way you can to get any targeted traffic to any page of your site. Then rely on your copy and internal linking menus to draw people to the pages that actually convert (but may be too expensive to buy relevant bids for).
People might be linking to free info., but where you lead the visitors afterwards, is your business!
Unless you have very comprehensive session tracking (and monitor repeat visitors), it is hard to know where the paying customers actually originate from. There is a similar frustration with affiliate programs that do not offer individual link tracking as far as the sale. You can do some of us a favour, and ask Sitesell to bring it in ASAP.
All ths best,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Thanks for the details. I've "studied" the PPC market and 7search is one of the best solutions for PPC. It's actually the clearest from fraud from the 1c minimum engines. Than comes goclick and the rest have at least 50% of the traffic based on fraud. |

this post has been encouraging, and motivational thanks everyone!
One question I've wondered, which has not been discussed, is how many are doing this part-time in addition to a full-time job, or part-teim (not
to even mention the usual time needed for family, household chores, etc.)
I've been doing affiliate marketing, mostly offline, for about 8 years now though it never made any sizable money. I also did nonprofit fundraising for 15 years...so hopefully the writing and newsletter skills will come in handy. One of the things that has kept me from getting into this, as much and any sooner has been working a full-time job that while I'm lucky to have some job security calls for more than the usual hours (often unpredictably) and another part-time job besides that, both, for various reasons neither of which I can stop or change right now (well, and plus a little romance on the side ) (Did I say I have writing skills? Can you say run-on sentence!? LOL Let me blame on my romance ) I am now trying to move forward with making money online, it is hard to find time or energy, but the time does seem more 'right' in a karmic way now than before.
so ... if anyone is willing to share what other things clamor for space on your calendar and to do list, I'd be interested to hear. One person mentioned being retired, and there are those who have quit their day jobs. However, I'm sure many of us, including some of the more successfully earning folks on here have "day jobs"

Mark,
I work 3 days a week (15 hrs) at a local church which I love. It keeps me in the real world and provides needed social interaction as well. I did work full-time for years, and full-time online, and burnt myself out badly. I didn't maintain balance in my life is why, now I've learned my lesson
Even now, I only work part-time online. I could have had a dozen sites up by now had I worked at the pace I used to. But I don't, on purpose. I have goals I want to achieve monthly, as well as for the year now, and revise if needed. I still have a bit of a tendency to procrastinate, but not as bad as I used to be
