WP is great for blogs.
TXP (TextPattern) has the same simple interface for posting, but can be turned into any type of site you want. Photoblog, blog, business site, affiliate site, store, personal webpage. You have complete control over the layout and how your content is served.
WP is pretty much canned. You can change a few colors and a bit of positioning of your homepage, but that is it.
And WP doesn't allow different formats for different pages of your site. TXP does. _________________ Eric D. Burdo

http://www.mywebsite.com/article/54/why-google-adsense-is-the-best
Notice the 54? That is the id. There is talk of the next update that will go with a user-definable URL.
But otherwise, TXP is great... easy to use, and once you have a layout, the rest is cake.; |
Eric, have you experienced this unique id hurting your ranking in the search engines?
Secondly, I set up a test site on textpattern. However, I have a question. Does your template have to be setup as the default template to get the system to work on the home page. I tried copying the default template and importing a new template named "x". I then created some articles and assigned them to "x" template. I could not get them to recognize "X" template until I pasted the template code in the default template. Is this natural to always work with the defaults in each section or can you use other templates?
Thanks for the great posts. This tool is insane!!!

I haven't had my TXP sites up long enough to really tell, but I don't think they do. The downside to them, is it means you have to know the ID to the article to create the link... you can't just use the "title name".
There are many ways to create your templates. Overriding the default is one. Or you can create new templates, and tell TXP to use those. There are often a couple of places you need to tell it, so that can be a bit annoying.
The TXP forums have some good help on that, plus there is a whole slew of plugins available also... _________________ Eric D. Burdo

Have you been sucessful with getting the "meta name="description" content=" to update dynamically in your template with textpattern. I am having trouble and have search high and low and can not find out how to do this.
Can you provide any pointers.
Thanks,
