Post subject: Does my pre-selling need improving?
|

Hi all,
Although I have yet to reach huge traffic numbers, they are slowly increasing. However, sales have been slow (but not non-existant!). I'm just wondering if I could be doing more with either the wording or the layout of my site to help encourage visitors to follow my affiliate links.
My original intent was to try and keep the site conversational, with affiliate links dropped in as almost an afterthought. I think this flows well, but it may not be doing much to convert visitors. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated!
The site is http://www.profitpiggy.com
Thanks,

Hey Canuck,
Perhaps this should be it the "Present you site for Review' section. For what it is worth I think your website it over stylised and is not the kind of site that serious property investors would go in for. What exactly is your most wanted response? After reading through the intro there is nothing to compelling to make me stay or even want to sign up for a free newsletter. There are a broken links on the home page and overall I think that the site lacks content and fails to deliver!

Thanks for your comments Declan.
Could you please let me know which links you had trouble with? I just checked every link off the main page and they all worked. I wonder if there was a server issue at the time you visited.
My desired audience is the beginner investor, so I was attempting to make the site friendly and less 'in your face' than some of the sites I link to. I'm hoping to gently introduce them to the various areas of real estate investing, and once they find one they're interested in they can follow the link to the site that actually does all the selling.
I'm a little concerned about your comments stating that the site fails to deliver. When I originally posted this site for review some months ago I got nothing but positive feedback. Have I overdone it since then, or is it simply a matter of adding more content?
Thanks again.

My perspective is a little different from Declan, him being from the real estate buyers industry . I think he gives some good points though and great views if you are trying to appeal to everyone in the RE realm...new or savvy investor.
Do you have enough visitors to your site to constitute it not being a success? I remember in a previous post you said you were getting around 10 uniques a day? Build up those visitors. Continue to add content AND incoming links.
Once you have a steady flow of traffic and still not very good response rate, then try changing out the copy on the homepage. Test...and re-test. That is probably one of the biggest mistakes affiliates make. They like to just throw up the affiliate links and then income should start to pour in.
Treat it like a business. If you have a newsletter, then publish it to your site. Let your new visitors read past newsletter. Change out your frontpage copy on a regular basis. Don't let your site look stagnant. Just remember if you want to have the big bucks being paid in the affiliate industry, you have to treat every site like a business and work hard.

I agree - this is a Review request and I have re-located it.

Hey Canuck,
I hope I didn't sound like I was totally bagging your site. I actually really like it. Its funny because last week I showed my partner the website. She is really into property investing in a big way. She is an architect and attends lots of courses and seminars on property investing so she is by no means a novice.

Voasi, I don't think that this is enough to presell those visitors. I should back up and qualify my earlier comments. I will admit that the site does look good and I think that a lot of thought went into the design. BUT you need to focus on what you want your visitors to do once they get there. You should make your newsletter the central feature not some side thought. Offer some killer report or free ebook to get people to leave their details.
Think of your website from a visitors perspective not a design perspective. If an average person was to visit this site their first thoughts might be to notice the design and maybe even manage a smile! Then they might go to the article section and read an article and possibly learn something they didn't know already. Then what....?
Just a quick comment on the introduction...you should only have text centred if it is less than 2 or 3 lines. The main body should be justified left otherwise it is not that easy on the eye.
Canuck I think that this is a good site and has potential. Don't get me wrong! But by making some changes here and there you will get a much better response. Anyhow a good site is a work in progress and you may be surprised that they way it looks in a year from is totally different from the way it is now. Keep adding lots of fresh content and don't let anything get in your way.
Keep up the good work!
Declan
Addition: Have a look at the 'Real Estate Top Sites' link because I get an error message when I click on it. It seems that the ID code is 'blank'! _________________ Declan O'Reilly
