Clickbank is going to make someone rich by coming up with a solution to this new problem they are creating.
Every hoplink on the web if not fixed to conform will go dead in Dec 2003
They are already making people hoplink mad:)
Use of hoplinks to stop in December 2003

Yes, it is already getting a lot of disapproval from many people. I don't understand how they decided on this without informing the affiliates and venders before. I can understand the reason for new system, but there is no reason to stop the old one. What will happen to already existing links in free ebooks and large sites, newsletters ? I think they should take these into consideration. Time will tell.

From Clickbanks page
I have old hoplinks in places where I can't change them, like ebooks and messageboard postings. I can't afford to lose all those links!
Don't worry. In December your old hoplinks (links with you as the affiliate) will be routed to a page you can specify in your ClickBank account. This will enable you to redirect old hoplink traffic any way you like.
This is going to take a lot of work.

Hello everyone.
Is this breaking news, or have I been a bit sleepy lately?
From the point of view of affiliates, I think changes at ClickBank are long overdue...
I know several super affiliates who are reluctant to promote products using CB's program for fear of affiliate theft alone. (Admittedly, they operate in good old "internet marketing", where the problem of affiliate poaching is much greater than elsewhere.) I didn't notice many complaints from the merchants, though!
That said, why oh why don't they just automatically redirect all the old links to the new system? On initial inspection, it looks as though affiliates should prefer the changes (at least in principle), and will gladly start promoting the new links to help avoid hijacking. But how is the DIY redirection method going to work out I wonder? Rather looks like unnecessary work.
I have only just read the info on ClickBank's site, so I'll be interested to see how things unfold in practice.
Thanks for the thread,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Currently, a Clickbank merchant who has a lot of affiliates doesn't benefit in the search engines by having all those incoming links because the affiliate links are to Clickbank - not to the merchant's site.
Does anyone know if this new system will change that?

I learned about the Clickbank changes in an email newsletter. Even though I have several accounts with Clickbank, I don't think I have received one email from them informing of the new procedure.
How are others learning about the changes?

I think i should have been more clear on this. I read the page in clickbank. But what will happen to all those free ebooks, newsletters and large sites. Affiliates would want it to be automatic. I cannot imagine myself changing all the links manually so that it redirects. There are many people who promote many products. They are in a fix. It is nothing that can't be done, but it sure takes time. As you said kurt, it is going to be a lot of work.

Which is actually aright with me because google adwords is so cluttered with clickbank affiliates, people need to get up off there ass an actually make a website and promote these affiliates and quit taking the lazy way out

The more I learn about this new procedure, the more I like it. It looks like every incoming affiliate link will be to the merchant's site, not to Clickbank as it is now.

I have always felt that people promoting Clickbank products should use
their own website to promote them. I can search on some keywords at
Google, and 85% of the Adwords results all go to the same clickbank
hoplink. Who wants a search engine with listings all going to the same
website. Also if people have to send people to their own website first,
it will force all affiliates to be more responsible for their marketing tactics. |

I learnt about this from the affiliate login page.

Yes. The links were to go to the merchant's site directly and help their link popularity. Now this has changed and will change umpteen times based on the feedback. My suggestion -
Try the new system on 1 or 2 pages to get a feel but don't change everything just yet. _________________ Arun Agrawal

It looks like all the ruckus might cause Clickbank to change their mind about a link that will be direct to the merchant's site. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this won't happen.

Take a look at Allan's latest newsletter issue... there are some good points plus other useful links.
Hope this helps,
