Good grief! Have another look at http://clickbank.com/kount.html
The page has changed dramatically. ClickBank is now testing a different type of tracking link, one that looks like this:
http://AFFILIATE.hop.kount.com/VENDOR/
What a mess! _________________ Allan Gardyne

It's getting to the point that, even when you find something great online, such as ClickBank, it is a fair assumption that it will be shortlived and cause some degree of misery down the proverbial road, for whatever reason.
I happen to work in the Music industry as a record promoter and media publicist, as well as am a ClickBank affiliate for over 150 products.
And, this situation is starting to eerily look like the humongous misfortune that occurred with MP3.com...like driving toward a mile-wide tornado that is only 45 seconds distance from you.
Say it isn't so, Mr. Talbert, just say it isn't so...

Post subject: The New ClickBank Tracking Code Gives You More Flexibility
|

Look Peoples, the new system allows many of us:
1) to collapse multiple accounts into one account.
2) is easy to implement ..
3) allows us to host pages for our affiliates who work with emails and do not have webservers. We do not know about how you market but we use third party salespeople to go to potential customers and hand out business cards (with the old hoplink, UGH!) and brochures. Now we can better support our affiliates using our webservers (the new URL will have their name for a better business presentation) and
4) prevent legal complications by affiliates over promising product specifications. Remember if you host the landing page the product will be presented YOUR WAY ...
5) It really prevents theft of commissions
6) etc., etc. etc.
I could rample on .. but the point is that new ideas are challenging and tend to scare people .. it is like teaching an old pathologist new tricks. They only slice and dice one way ..
Look deeper into the pro's of the new system...

I think this whole mess startred because someone leaked it out and CB wasn't ready for the announcement.
It most likely was in the testing or beta mode.
I really would expect them to make an announcement before changing things over. _________________ Kurt Geer

Post subject: Allen. I dont know about the new clickbank system..

My clickbank affiliate commision averaged approximately $380.00 per day before all this happened. Now I switched over to their new system & my average is less than $140.00 per day..
I thought they said it was gonna reduce affiliate theft, and problems etc.
My sales are way down. I even got customers telling me that they signed up for my program, I indeed check with the merchant I sell for(I don't yet have my own product) and he says they did buy.
But these people are not accounted for in my clickbank sales log.
& I just quit my job a month ago. (Time to sell products other than clickbank.)
Heed this warning. Diversify, Diversify, Diversify.
Do not put all your eggs in clickbank.
Learn From my mistake...
Sincerely,
Mattu |

Post subject: Your loss of affiliate commissions

Mattu,
It appears that you place your identifying iframes on your affiliate site but the vendor did not have his iframe identification installed.
There is a check for this .. first click on your page and then click on his page and then VERIFY using this URL http://gadget.kount.com/counter/verify.htm
If you see your name the vendor did NOT install his iframe identifier and most vendors have not at this stage.
It is a very simple system .. unless ClickBank OVERREACTS and changes it to their timestamp mechanism.

Big deal, so Clickbank is making changes. Big Whoopy
I communicated with Clickbank. They assured me that every affiliate will be taken care of as they should be.
So get your shorts in a bunch about it, if you must. But Nothing in life ever stays as is forever. Life is about change, and we as affiliates should go with the flow, and cut Clickbank some slack here. You weren't injured in any way.
They didn't rob you of anything, they didn't rip you off in any way.
So, concentrate your efforts in a better more productive way. Than gripping about Clickbank. You should be glad they're making changes
that will make the end result even better than it is now. I'm all for that.
They're even making it alot harder, for outsiders and crooked affiliates from stealing your commissions. I'm all for that, aren't you ?
That's only part of the improvements being made. So lighten up a little, and give them room to breathe.

1. The first post in this thread provided a Clickbank email address to which you might submit a complaint. I encourage everyone not to just write and complain for the sake of complaining. In your email, in clear and concise language, explain what you like as well as what you dislike about the changes. There are several good things about the changes and I hope Clickbank doesn't throw the baby out with the bath water to accomodate those who complain the loudest.
2. Whatever Clickbank does in the end, I hope the new affiliate link goes directly to the merchant's page. I like the idea of having all those incoming links to my site without having to use redirects, meta refreshes, third party software, etc.
3. It's interesting that even though I have several Clickbank accounts, I haven't received a single email from Clickbank about the changes.

Ed,
Would you please explain what you mean by this? I wrote Clickbank about this very topic a couple of days ago and the response was that I would still want to maintain multiple merchant accounts.

For several months, I had been trying to decide whether to purchase one of the third party solutions available for Clickbank users. The one I was considering promised that with his solution, all my incoming affiliate links would drive traffic directly to my site and thus improve my chances for good search engine ranking.
The third party product also promised simplicity and other benefits, and I decided to go ahead with the purchase.
After the purchase, I realized to use the new product, I would lose all my listings (except one) in Clickbank's directory of merchants. That caused me to delay implementation and to correspond with the product's author.
Then I remembered Allan's newsletter from a couple of months ago where he wrote about having an Exit strategy for your business.
I realized the person I was corresponding with about this third party product is a one-man-show. What if I fully implemented his software and then something bad happens to him? How would I get updates, support, etc?
I wonder how many other people who have purchased this third party solution/software - it ranks high in Clickbank's marketplace - have considered what they would do if the product's author disappears?
This new Clickbank procedure seems to offer benefits to Clickbank users without the need for a third party product. I hope that whatever they decide on in the end, there will be no need for third party Clickbank products.

I feel that clickbank injured me I was about avergaing $200 a day and yesterday I only made about $50 and spent about $30 on clicks. I feel robed and ripped off.

Better Affiliate Link Management
I have one possible answer for those of you who have to change their affiliate links from time to time because of their affiliate companies upgrades.
I set up "target" redirect pages on one of my sites which I then direct all of my affiliate links to.
eg:
All of the links for
Satellite Company A >> go to url.com/links/SatCoA.htm
Satellite Company B >> go to url.com/links/SatCoB.htm
Satellite Company C >> go to url.com/links/SatCoC.htm
etc etc
Then if SatCo A shuts down their affiliate program, I make 2 small changes then upload and they get NO more leads from me.
It requires a little bit of work in the beginning, BUT, it is a far superior way of link management than going through all of your sites and pages.
PLUS
It has increased my Click Through rate by approx 20% (which shows me how many people see the affiliate info and then reType the URL, thus by-passing my commission)
Please read the full details of how to set this up here....

Good Luck

All in all, I think it's best to sit and watch for a little while yet. I have a feeling things will not end up anywhere near as bad as they look right now, due, if nothing else, to the public outcry.
I still can't believe ClickBank have let this "mess" develop, though.
Cheers,
