Hi Kurt
How about explaining why you think this is a bad thing? Is it because you have to change all the links on your sites, are there other reasons?
ClickBank's reasons for the changes seem fairly sound to me.
Quoting ClickBank's site...
Benefits to both Vendors and Affiliates include:
More accurate tracking of referrals.
No "stolen" or "hijacked" commissions.
Customers can't receive discounts simply by signing up as an "affiliate" just prior to purchasing.
Fewer spam complaints. The new system forces affiliates to take responsibility for their own marketing methods.
Multiple target pages with incoming traffic control. Affiliates can link directly to any page the vendor authorizes.
More features on the way including detailed traffic and conversion stats.
Vendors converting to the new system will be specially highlighted in the ClickBank marketplace, which will attract more Affiliates.
All new affiliates will automatically use the new system.
Affiliate nicknames will be invisible in order to protect your account and your commission. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Hi Allan
When I posted this morning, Clickbank's page did not contain the following,
or I missed this:
<I have old hoplinks in places where I can't change them, like ebooks and messageboard postings. I can't afford to lose all those links!
Don't worry. In December your old hoplinks (links with you as the affiliate) will be routed to a page you can specify in your ClickBank account. This will enable you to redirect old hoplink traffic any way you like.>
I go agree it has been a while coming for the change, but with no email from their customer service department to the vendors, it seems everyone including myself needs to calm down a take another look at this.
I do have a question for you though.
At the end of 2001 you ran an article or comment from Wayne of Trafficollogy with the code to make clickbank affiliates link to your site instead of Clickbanks site.
That was such a great idea, I used it for my site.
With this change how will Clickbanks new tracking code affect the code that already was in place, and will it pick up the hoplink with the old format.
http://www.yoursite.com#***
I tried formatting a page with the new code and don't think it is being picked up with the code.
Any ideas?

Kurt, I've asked Wayne Yeager if he'd be kind enough to comment on this.
Did everyone else receive an email from ClickBank about these plans? I didn't. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Sorry, but I haven't figured out how to use Clickbank's
new links yet, much less how to re-engineer them!
One thing is clear - the old JavaScript link redirection thing isn't
going to work with this new tik-tok link configuration. (At least
not in its current form.)
I suppose we'll know the details on how this new linking protocol
actually works when Clickbank's patent is published... 18 months
from now, but in the meantime, it's just going to take a lot of
experimentation.
If I learn anything, I'll be sure to post it. |

Post subject: Linking from newsletters or Google AdWords
|
|
|
One thing that bothers me is that if you're linking directly to a merchant from either Google AdWords or a newsletter, ClickBank now expects you to create a landing page on your web site and direct your visitors to it.
Redirects using .htaccess won't work because you have to have a web page which includes your ClickBank tracking stuff.
One way around the problem would be to use a meta refresh, with your tracking stuff on the meta fresh page.
For example, if I wanted to link from a newsletter to Dr Mani's ebook on generating revenue from blogs, I could put a link like this in my newsletter:
That page has a one-second delay, so it disappears too quickly for you to View Source it in the usual way. However, if you try this special link...
view-source:http://www.AssociatePrograms.com/profitable-blogs
...you can see how I created the meta refresh page including my ClickBank tracking stuff.
One disadvantage of meta refreshes is that they disable the "Back" link. That's why I switched from to the .htaccess redirects quite a while ago.
It seems a backward step to revert to meta refreshes now.
I assume javascript and php redirects can also be used, but that's not my field.
Can anyone improve on this idea? I'm looking forward to seeing what you think.
[UPDATE] The view-source example won't work any more, because I've taken ClickBank's advice and switched back to the original hoplink. I'm still using a .htaccess redirect.]
[Updated to remove an old defunct link.] _________________ Allan Gardyne

Hi allan,
Yes i guess we can use javascript. It is quite easy actually. Just a line of code. I am not an affiliate of clickbank, so i am not sure how all this hoplink works. But one thing is that it is going to affect many people, atleast in terms of their time.
To your success,

I am confused about one thing, maybe someone here will
know the answer. Does Google Adwords allow redirects
on your destination URL? I have checked their terms but am
not sure how to interpret them:
*************************
Your Destination URL must work properly. Check your spelling and symbols to make sure you entered the correct URL for the page you want users to visit.
Your Destination URL must link to a working website. You cannot link to an email address or a file (ex. an image, audio, video, or document file).
The landing page for your ad cannot be under construction. We require your Destination URL to link to an actual web page with content relevant to your ad. When your site is under construction or down for maintenance, you must pause your Ad Group(s).

Just a reminder: If you're going to try a meta refresh, remember to put the special tracking code inside <BODY> tags. _________________ Allan Gardyne

Zig,
Clickbank is changing their tracking system. It is not in place yet,
but you can read more about it here:

1. It is difficult to locate those clcikbank programs which the merchants give affiliates a special link to use rather than the default hoplinks.
I have no record of those programs, and i cannot use "find hoplink" function in my html editor to locate them.
2. Clickbank never allow you to monitor which merchants leave their system. These cause waste traffic. _________________ http://sunsss.com |
