Hello everyone.

I've recently tried to monitor a couple of threads (to which I have not contributed) using the "Watch this topic for replies" link, but I have not been getting email updates of new posts. (The system works fine for threads I have contributed to.)

Is this my end, or a problem with the latest mod rewrite, for example? Anyone else having problems?

It always used to work fine for me, but it's only occasionally that I monitor a thread in this way, so I can't be sure when it stopped working. I noticed it this week.

The only possible clue...

When I click the "Watch this topic for replies" link, the page reloads, but nothing has changed. Shouldn't the link say "topic being watched" (or words to that effect)? Hopefully this isn't a paranoid memory trick.

Any help much appreciated,
Charlie.

I've had the same problem. I always click on notify of reply for posts I respond to and I have yet to get an email notification.

Thanks for the alert. I'll see what I can find out about this.

jjdubb, have you received ANY emails at all from this forum?

Here's one possible problem...

Some forum members use one of those email systems that require the recipient to go to a web site and type in a word that appears on a web page before any emails will get through. Wally is too busy to do that.

Perhaps you need to whitelist

in your email system?

Yes, I think this is a problem with the mod_rewrite modification to the boards.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll try to fix this problem as soon as possible.

jjdubb,
You had the "no" box ticked in your profile for the advise replies selection. I've changed it to "yes" - but that may not fix the problem as Charlie has the yes ticked and says he isn't getting the advices either. Let's see what Aidan can find out.

Any developments? It's still not working for me.

Cheers,

Aidan, Allan, anybody...

Any joy? The problem remains for me. The only way I can be notified of an update to a thread is if I have posted to it myself. (I'm a bit reluctant to do this just to get email notification that someone else has said something.)

The problem is the same in both IE and Opera, but used to work before the mod_rewrite.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Thanks for the reminder.

Aidan's too busy for me. I'll try to get someone else to fix this.

You're welcome. Wink

I'm surprised I'm the only person who seems to miss it. How do the rest of you keep track of threads you haven't posted to? (Please don't say a list of direct links.)

Trust you to come up with a solution! Wink

(Don't listen Allan. Get your cheque book out!)

Seriously, that's what I have always done, too. It's at times like these that Thanksgiving does give "poor foreigners" something to be grateful for (too)...

a few days of relatively light activity. (I blame the turkey.)

Anyway, I don't always read every thread like I used to, and the "watch topic" is a nice reminder. Or at least it used to be. Rolling Eyes

Thanks anyway. It's the thought that counts! Smile

Cheers,
Charlie.

Charlie, Debs,

If you are a daily visitor, your time of last visit is at the top of the page.

Do a search for * (all messages), in the last "ONE" day, "message text", "ascending" "1000" char in "posts".

Then just scroll down to the time you were last there ... and read on in chronological order.

If you want more info from any messsage, click its link - afterwards use the back button to go back to the chronology.

Works fine for moderating.

Unfortunately, the next time choice is 7 days. 2 or 3 would be useful for more casual viewers.

Hope that helps.

Hello Wally.

Thanks for the method - but it seems to be achieving much the same as the method we're actually using.

My problem is with the days I don't have much time and just skim posts. I can't always remember which of the threads I wanted to watch (but haven't posted to), hence my desire to see "watch topic" restored to its former (highly useful) glory.

Cheers,
Charlie.

Charlie and anyone else interested...

Aidan says he's fixed the Topic Watch feature.

Please let me know if there are any further problems with it or with any other parts of the message board.

Sorry about the delay.

Yes, sorry about the delay everyone. I had been swamped with other work, and/or out of town - thanks for your patience!
