For some time I have wondered why the cheap PPCSE's traffic is generally regarded to be rubbish by most marketeers (I agree!) If the site visitors are genuine, by the law of averages they should have just as much interest in buying or responding as site visitors from Google or Overture. Is the answer that this traffic is not genuine? Is most of it just a blatant, fraudulent means of making money for the SE's in question. Someone who has the power or means to do so, should find out. MIKE? KEN?
It just seems to be accepted that the traffic is rubbish and that's that - nothing is done about it!!

If by "cheap PPCSEs" you mean any PPCSE that isn't Google or Overture I think you're painting them with too broad a brush.
There's been a lot of discussion about click fraud recently, and it certainly can be a big problem, but the legitimate businesses do try to minimise it, in part by tracking down and banning any affiliate suspected of sending fraudulent traffic.
Marketing via PPCSEs is a funny business. What works well for one person won't necessarily do well for another, so people report wildly varying results from the same search engine. It's a matter of constantly testing and tracking campaigns to see what works and what doesn't. _________________ Glennys Faulds

There's a service called Whosclickingwho.com which is helping people detect click fraud from PPC traffic. _________________ Allan Gardyne

PPC is a tricky business. You could write a book on it!
I don't think PPC traffic is regarded as "rubbish" by most marketers, but as I've said before, it can be one of the quickest ways of emptying a piggy bank.
It's true that the figures for "real traffic" are "interesting", but here's a couple of things I've found can make more difference overall...
1) Multi-word search terms attract much better traffic than one or two word general terms. This is true with all the PPC and even free SE traffic. Not hard to understand why.
2) Remember the difference between "clicking your ad" (which costs you) and "taking the required action when they arrive" (which pays you). Watch the competition, and take inspiration from the earners rather than the brand-builders.
Make sure your landing page is strong before you pay to drive traffic to it, and then split test from the same source.
3) If you learn to craft really good ads, Google Adwords might pay better. Wordcraft can beat dollars here, but remember the point about the landing page's effectiveness or else it's money down the drain.
Hope this helps,
Charlie.

Best to only post once...
I know you want to attract a response, but it can lead to 2 parallel threads covering the same ground. This has caused aggravation for various people in the past. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."
