Hi!

I might have a simple question for experts that bothers me: What is domain parking?

The reason I'm asking this is that the web hosting packet that I'm interested now does not have domain parking.

I don't really understand how it works. If the web host does not support this option, does it mean that the domain name must be hosted at the company I registred it?

For instance, one of the name servers is : pns1.company.com

I'm a bit confused at this moment Embarassed . Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks!
Eugen

Hi,

I register my domains with godaddy but host with another company. Therefore my domain is 'parked' at godaddy and points to the other hosting nameservers. I also have other domains not in use which are also parked at godaddy.

Now I think your host is saying that each domain you register thru him must be attached to a paid hosting account. This is common.

Is this what you wanted to know?

When they say they they do not support domain parking, what they most likely mean is that they do not allow you to specify additional domains (other than the principle domain you are hosting).

Your principle domain will be hosted by them. That's what you're paying for.

When you set up the name servers for a domain at the company you registered it with, the domain must be either parked or hosted on the servers you specify - in this case with your separate hosting company.

Parked domains either point to another domain or resolve to a "for sale" or the dreaded "under construction" sign. Parking a domain is a way of making something show up for a domain, even if there is actually nothing hosted there.

You do not need domain parking to host your main domain. You just need to set the name servers with the registering company, as I mentioned.

Hope this helps,
Charlie.
