hi all!!! i've just started learning about affiliate marketing and am working on my own content site. i've decided to go with a sort of metaphysical theme, since i know a lot about that and feel like i can keep my site fresh and offer things that others aren't.
but now that i know about affiliate marketing, i'm seeing it everywhere! i'm just curious what people think are the most popular categories of affiliate marketing and where my category might fit in.
also, can anyone recommend good content driven affiliate sites to take a look at?
thanks!

Hi lil miss sunshine (I love the name!)
To make money with affiliate programs, it's often a good idea to start with a topic in which you're already passionately interested. That way, it will seem more like a hobby than work, and you're more likely to persevere when things inevitably go wrong. They will!
However, it also helps to be business-minded and think of this as a business. Affiliates who succeed brilliantly try to imagine what their potential customer is thinking.
For example, your ideal potential customer may be someone who is planning to spend money on a particular item, and is actively searching for the item.
Such a person might type "where can I buy ....?" into a search engine.
If you have designed a page which answers that question, you're off to a flying start.
Before you start, one of the most useful things you can do is spend some time thinking about your potential customer and imagining how you can build a site to please that person.
The most popular categories? Some big money is being made with "adult" sites, casinos, pharmaceuticals, web hosting, auctions and debt consolidation. I have no idea how your site would fit in!
The good news is that there are many thousands of affiliate programs and millions of different products you can choose to promote.
You can choose to chase the big money in fiercely competitive fields, but I would advise that approach for a newcomer. You'll have a better chance of success if you look for small overlooked niches and aim to build the best darn site you possibly can in that small niche.
I strongly recommend you read Ken Evoy's free Affiliate Masters Course. (You can find it on my main page.) It's a superb introduction to affiliate programs, including a very useful section on choosing a niche. _________________ Allan Gardyne

thanks allan!! i really like your site and i've learned a lot of information from it. i am reading the master's program...it's what's gotten me to narrow down my field of interest. i'm really excited about creating my site. i don't expect to make millions, but i'm hoping to make a little money. actually, the reason that i stumbled onto your site is that i'm an american living in japan...but it's very expensive to be transferring money back to the us to pay off those student loans. haha. so i was looking for some ways that i could cover those costs without having to transfer the money. and here i am!
love,
lil miss |
