Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. I'm usually on the SBI forum, but have finally graduated to adding some affiliate programs to my site, hence my landing here! Smile

I have joined up with two different affiliate merchants on Commission Junction. The first has a product catalog right on CJ so it was very easy to access the html for product links to place on my pages.

The second merchant seems to provide only general image and text links, but no product catalog for direct product links (which I need). This is a large company with thousands of items, so I am hoping there's an easy way to do this, and because I'm a novice, I just don't know what it is! Embarassed

I emailed the merchant, but got back a totally nonhelpful "stock" reply which didn't address my specific question.

Being a newbie to webbuilding and adding links in particular, can anyone give me some direction on this?

Thanks!
Patti

If the merchant doesn't offer product links, there isn't anything you can do about it, especially if the merchant is unhelpful. My suggestion is find another merchant. Linkshare has a tool where you can browse the merchant and build links to specific pages/products, you may have better luck there.

Hi Debs,

Thanks for your reply. What puzzles me about this is that sites with similar themes to mine are placing product links using this merchant - so how do THEY do it? (Don't suppose they'd tell me!) Smile

I've sent another inquiry to the merchant, but so far no reply.

Thanks,
Patti

maybe the merchant is listed in more than one network? Have you deciphered the links on those sites to see where they come from?

Another thought, if the links are CJ links, maybe they are using a datafeed.

If it's a CJ link, you can ask them to set up a text link that allows the affiliates to input a URL to any page on the merchants site.

If this is enabled on a text link in CJ, when you select which site to track, to hide the code, etc. there should be an "advanced options" available that will allow you to input a URL.

I just discovered this by asking a CJ merchant yesterday.

Hi Debs & Robert,

Debs, I did view the code and it shows "qksrv", which tracks for CJ, so it is a CJ link. I looked at the options again for this merchant, which is Shindigz (party supplies) and I can only find general banner and text links.

Can you explain what a datafeed is and if it will help me to place product links?

Robert, could you reword your email so a newbie like me can absorb it? Embarassed

I appreciate the help.
