Ok..I'm at a lost!
I must be missing something! My nav. bar is a library item. I had to add a new hyperlink to it. I updated my whole local site. I then put the library item to my remote site. It is there and updated, but it does not show up revised on my pages???? How do I update the remote pages?

A dreamweaver library item is NOT SSI, it doesn't auto update your pages online as SSI does. It updates them throughout your site on your harddrive only. Once it updates, you need to upload all the changed pages to your site. You never have to upload Library items if you don't want to, it isn't needed.

Thanks Debs. I had to look up SSI ! LOL So, I should look more into this, or can you suggest a way to do such a thing with dreamweaver. Also, Does it "hurt" to upload the entire site again and again?
Mel, you can upload as much as you want, no problem there. If your host offers SSI, it is a great way to update info across a site. Unfortunately, most hosts require you to name your pages with an .shtm or .shtml extension. If you already have pages indexed with a different extension, you have to redirect, etc. which is a pain if you have a lot of pages.

Having said that, there are ways of setting things up so that you can use SSI with standard .html pages. One simple(ish) way is via the .htaccess file on your (apache) web server.
(I used to do a similar thing myself to set up .html to be treated as .php as I was advised certain SEs were not liking .php - even without query strings - but .php is certainly NOT penalised now, if it ever was.)
Ask your web host about it first though, since some hosts take a dim view of people hacking around with .htaccess. In this case, parsing all .html files for SSIs could slow the whole server down - a big issue for OTHER customers on a shared server, but if you have not too much traffic, they may be happy for you to go this route.
