What I understand by Free For All sites is a site composed of nothing else but links. A huge list with links to all sorts of sites. If so, A link to you from a FFA site can help your page rank, right?
Is it so? Please clarify it to me!

FFA links are a bad idea. Most have zeroed out PR from Google, and if you link back to the FFA page you could get hit with a penalty.
My advice, stay away from them. Even if they did have legitimate PR, the massive amount of links will dilute any benefit it gives to you.

i absolutely agree...stay away from ffa...they may have beed useful at one time but not anymore.
most people who still submit to ffa's use an auto submit software.
