Post subject: Autoresponders - I need one that I host that has unlimited..
|
|
|
I am looking for a quality autoresponder package that I can host on my servers. I need one that has mass mailing, customizable responses (I can put the persons name into the email automatically and such) and allows for multiple autoresponders.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I tried MyEmailManager from Corey Rudl. After numerous nightmares of tech support, I decided that wasn't what I wanted to deal with.
I have also contemplated other packages, but I think I'd rather host my own. Unless someone can convice me of the benefits to having someone else host it? _________________ Eric D. Burdo

The biggest drawback I can think of with hosting your own is the risk of having your domain shut down if someone complains about spam. It doesn't mean you are guilty by any stretch, just that someone complained and your host took it as gospel.
A few years back I did my own and received a complaint. Luckily my host was understanding, and looked at the configuration, the signups, etc., and didn't take action. I have heard nightmare stories from others however. I don't know alot about the backend part of autoresponders, and how vulnerable they are to hacking.
Have you checked with your host? A good host can usually recommend specific tools that comply with their requirements and security issues.
As far as finding one, you can check out the various script sites and read the rating comments. Ask around SitePoint or WebmasterWorld forums. They have some incredibly knowledgeable people there who can offer recommendations as well. _________________ Learn how to turn keyphrases into quality, well-targeted articles your visitors and SE's will love with Gary Antosh's new ebook "Web Content Made Easy!" |

Post subject: Unlimited Autoresponders: I use ListMail hosted at my server

Eric,
The autoresponder I personally use with great results hosted at my server is List Mail.
No, I never had any spam complaints.
I use double opt-in with my autoresponder, now.
Hope it helps

Double opt-in is absolutely the way to go!

I think so too...
Some people make the point that you will get a lower sign up rate than single opt in. As far as I'm concerned, if someone can't be bothered to confirm a subscription, they are hardly likely to be very interested in the first place!
At the end of the day, are you building a list for the sake of quoting high circulation figures, or to gather targeted prospects for your "offer"? Give me a smaller more responsive list anytime!
In these "spam-paranoid" times in which we live, I think this slightly reduced opt in rate is a price very much worth paying.
Cheers,
Charlie. _________________ "Before I speak, I have something important to say."

Hi Ed,
Definitely go with AutoresponsePlus - it's rather pricey, but
when you think of the value of your subscribers, it's definitely
worth it !
I've installed it for a few clients and they've nothing but
praises for it.

I would not host your own autoresponder for spam shutdowns. Even if you have double opt0in leads there inevitably will bve someone who doesnt remember agreeing to receive opportunities or mail and complain. Its a pure numbers game. After many false attempts, I finally found an autoresponder that blows away the competition. I use it now exclusively on my own server.

Have a look at:
http://www.limitlessfollowup.com/
It doesn't have a double opt in option but it is free... |
